The Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Pakistan H.E. Mr. Yerzhan Kistafin briefed Pakistani media about the ongoing reforms in his country including the Constitutional and election reforms. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev shared the details of the reforms in his\u00a0 Address to the Nation, on September 1, 2022.<\/strong><\/em><\/h5>\n
Ambassador spoke about the main provisions and priorities announced in the address of the President and also shed light on the recent developments in bilateral relations with Pakistan. In addition, he spoke about the events that took place this year and plans for the fourth quarter of 2022.<\/h5>\n
Here it is worth noting that President Tokayev has reached to the conclusion that his country requires a new and fresh mandate to run the affairs of the state amicably. He announced the Snap presidential elections in his address. The election is expected to be held in the coming autumn season. President Tokayev also recommended limiting the president\u2019s term to one term of 7 years while re-election would be prohibited.<\/strong><\/h5>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
Mr. Kistafin said that President in his address highlighted Kazakhstan’s socio-economic development. Several vital initiatives were also announced by the President for the upcoming Presidential and Parliamentary elections.<\/h5>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
Elections to the Mazhilis (lower house of Parliament) and Maslikhats (local representative bodies) will be held in the first half of 2023 if all relevant laws in the follow-up to the constitutional amendments approved in the June 5 national referendum are adopted by the end of 2022. Moreover, the role of Parliament, media, and civil society in Kazakhstan would be strengthened.<\/h5>\n
President Tokayev announced that the independence of the judiciary would be strengthened by systematically reducing administrative and government pressure on the legal system, principally by reforming the Supreme Court and increasing its power over judicial review.\"\"<\/h5>\n

While speaking on bilateral ties, Ambassador said, “President’s visit to Pakistan is expected in the first half of next year as the President is planning for that . Direct flights between the two countries are expected to start in Nov 2022. The flights will be operated between the two cities of Nur Sultan and Almaty and the major cities of Pakistan. The flights will bring people from both countries closer and know each other better. This will open a new chapter of bilateral cooperation when the business community will have easy communication facilities to reach each other.”<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<\/div>\n
Ambassador said this year both countries are also holding inter-governmental joint mission meetings to enhance further bilateral economic and regional cooperation. Moreover, both countries will also collaborate in media exchanges.<\/h5>\n
\u00a0Mr. Kistafin noted centuries-old cultural and religious relations between both countries. Kazakhstan is the world\u2019s largest landlocked country and the biggest economy in Central Asia. Pakistan offers Kazakhstan access to her seaports which are the nearest for Kazakhstan to the sea routes of world trade.<\/h5>\n
Ambassador looks forward to increasing bilateral cooperation in trade and other areas. He said that the potential for cooperation and development is enormous.<\/h5>\n
An exhibition of paintings was also part of the press conference in which historical, cultural, and government buildings were portrayed for the information of the Pakistani press. The participants took a keen interest in the exhibition.<\/strong> <\/span>\"\"<\/h5>\n
The consecutive holding of presidential elections followed by the election of deputies of the Mazhilis (the lower chamber of the Parliament) and maslikhats (local representative bodies) will allow focus on the solution of urgent and strategic tasks on socio-economic development of the country. In other words, the accumulated rhythm of the country\u2019s modernization will not be disturbed.<\/em><\/h5>\n
