\"\"Islamabad: 28 Jan 2023 – Pakistan condemns in the strongest terms the senseless and deeply offensive act of desecration of the Holy Quran in Denmark, by the same Islamophobe who committed a similar act in Sweden a few days ago.This repetition of the vile act leaves little doubt in the minds of Muslims around the world that freedom of expression is being blatantly abused to spread religious hatred and incitement to violence.<\/strong><\/em><\/h5>\n
It also calls into question the legal framework behind which the Islamophobes hide and spread hatred with impunity. At a time when there is an increasing need for inter-faith harmony and mutual respect for peaceful coexistence, the international community cannot turn a blind eye to these hate mongers.<\/h5>\n
Pakistan reiterates its considered position that freedom of expression comes with responsibilities. Pakistan also believes that it is the responsibility of the national governments as well as the international community to prevent these racist and Islampohobic acts.<\/h5>\n

Pakistan\u2019s concerns are being conveyed to the authorities in Denmark. We urge them to be mindful of the sentiments of the people of Pakistan and Muslims around the world and take steps to prevent such hateful and Islamophobic acts.<\/h5>\n
An anti-Islam activist has burned copies of the Muslim holy book near a Copenhagen mosque and outside the Turkish embassy in Denmark.<\/h5>\n
Rasmus Paludan, a far-right activist who holds both Danish and Swedish citizenship, had already infuriated the Turkish government by staging a Quran-burning protest in Sweden on January 21.<\/h5>\n
On Friday, he replicated the stunt in front of a mosque, as well as the Turkish Embassy in Copenhagen, and promised to continue every Friday until Sweden is admitted into NATO.<\/h5>\n
Sweden and neighbouring Finland are seeking to join the military alliance amid the war in Ukraine, in a historic departure from their non-aligned policies.<\/h5>\n
However, their accession would require approval from all NATO members, and Turkey has indicated it will block Sweden\u2019s bid \u2013 in part due to Paludan\u2019s initial stunt.<\/h5>\n
Even before that, Ankara was pressing the two countries to crack down on Kurdish armed groups, activists and other groups it considers \u201cterrorists\u201d.<\/h5>\n
Turkey\u2019s state-run Anadolu Agency said the Danish ambassador was summoned to the Turkish foreign ministry where Turkish officials \u201cstrongly condemned the permission given for this provocative act which clearly constitutes a hate crime\u201d.<\/h5>\n
