Islamabad-Scottish band Reely Jiggered visited Pakistan for Burns Night \u2013 the annual celebration of Scotland\u2019s national poet, Robert Burns on Jan 25, 2019. The band will play at the Charity Ball at the British High Commission, held every year to honour Robert Burns.<\/p>\n

In its first trip to Sialkot, the band visited Grays of Cambridge cricket ball factory and met Scottish-supported apprentices. Recognizing the urgency of the development of the skills sector, the British Council in collaboration with the Scottish Government launched the \u201cPakistan Scottish Apprenticeship Program\u201d in 2016. The aim of this program was to reduce the skills gap in Pakistan.<\/p>\n

DFID\u2019s Deputy Head of Office Kemi Williams said:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI’m delighted that the Scottish band Reely Jiggered is visiting Sialkot ahead of Burns Night. The UK is proud of its shared connection with Pakistan, and the is an excellent example of our support towards a stable and a prosperous future for the country.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The band also visited the Mid-East instrument factory, where they witnessed skilled workers making bagpipes, Scottish harps, bodhrans, and all kinds of drums, percussion and wind instruments. Pakistan is the second largest producer of bagpipes in the world after Scotland.<\/p>\n

Factory owner Mr Shoaib Imtiaz said:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/strong>I am my family\u2019s third generation that inherited this trade, and I am proud to say that my family is well-known for ensuring the technical perfection of our musical instruments. Bagpipes made by our factory are exported to the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, France, Germany, New Zealand and China.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
