Islamabad,27 Feb 2019; Pakistan confirmed on Wednesday that it had carried out airstrikes in Kashmir and shot down two Indian jets in its own airspace, capturing one of the pilots as the conflict with its nuclear-armed neighbour continued to escalate.<\/p>\n

“Today, Pakistan Air Force undertook strikes across Line of Control from within Pakistani airspace,” the foreign ministry said in a statement.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The Pakistan military said Indian jets had entered Pakistan in response and two had been shot down, with one pilot captured.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Tensions have dramatically escalated between the nuclear-armed rivals since Indian warplanes flew into Pakistani airspace and struck what New Delhi said was a camp of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), the group that claimed the Kashmir bombing. Pakistan denied the Indian claims with proofs and media exposures to the area.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

DG ISPR said: \u201cIn response to PAF strikes this morning as released by MoFA, IAF crossed LOC. PAF shot down two Indian aircrafts inside Pakistani airspace. One of the aircraft fell inside AJ&K while other fell inside IOK. One Indian pilot arrested by troops on ground while two in the area.\u201d\"\"<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Indian media has earlier reported that two pilots were killed when a Mig 21 plane crashed in Occupied Kashmir’s Budgam District.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

“Pakistan Air Force undertook strikes across Line of Control from within Pakistani airspace. This was not a retaliation to continued Indian belligerence. Pakistan has therefore, taken strikes at non military target, avoiding human loss and collateral damage. Sole purpose being to demonstrate our right, will and capability for self defence. We have no intention of escalation, but are fully prepared to do so if forced into that paradigm. That is why we undertook the action with clear warning and in broad daylight. For the last few years, India has been trying to establish what they call “a new normal” a thinly veiled term for doing acts of aggression at whatever pretext they wish on a given day. If India is striking at so called terrorist backers without a shred of evidence, we also retain reciprocal rights to retaliate against elements that enjoy Indian patronage while carrying out acts of terror in Pakistan.
