The organisation urges the military junta to free all the 64 other journalists still detained in the country.<\/strong><\/h5>\n<div>\n<h5>On 4 January 2024, Myanmar photographer\u00a0<strong>Kaung Sett Lin\u00a0<\/strong>was\u00a0<a title=\"released one year before the completion of his term - ouverture dans un nouvel onglet\" href=\"https:\/\/rsf.us7.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=5cb8824c726d51483ba41891e&amp;id=0593ed88dc&amp;e=10c4d6b1bc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/rsf.us7.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3D5cb8824c726d51483ba41891e%26id%3D0593ed88dc%26e%3D10c4d6b1bc&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1704874860914000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2xRV08ckTuTqJQejwAiWKW\">released one year before the completion of his term<\/a>\u00a0under an amnesty decreed by the military junta.<\/h5>\n<h5>The media professional was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/rsf.us7.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=5cb8824c726d51483ba41891e&amp;id=954c3182a3&amp;e=10c4d6b1bc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/rsf.us7.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3D5cb8824c726d51483ba41891e%26id%3D954c3182a3%26e%3D10c4d6b1bc&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1704874860914000&amp;usg=AOvVaw01z5K6-bZQd0J8tCWvcyvy\">sentenced in March 2022<\/a>\u00a0to three years in prison with hard labour on trumped-up charges of \u201cinciting rebellion\u201d, under Section 505 (a) of Myanmar\u2019s penal code. We now call on the Myanmar junta for the immediate release of the 64 other journalists and press freedom defenders who are still detained<\/em>.&#8221;<\/h5>\n<h5>Kaung Sett Lin was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/rsf.us7.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=5cb8824c726d51483ba41891e&amp;id=8656c0c2bb&amp;e=10c4d6b1bc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/rsf.us7.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3D5cb8824c726d51483ba41891e%26id%3D8656c0c2bb%26e%3D10c4d6b1bc&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1704874860914000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0n_ywx2wjVBiEaOS-dMhBN\">arrested on 5 December 2021<\/a>\u00a0along with his colleague, video reporter\u00a0<strong>Hmu Yadanar<\/strong>, while covering an anti-regime \u201cflash mob\u201d in Yangon. Both were badly injured, while the junta forces crashed a car into the protest using, and opened fire.<\/h5>\n<h5>Hmu Yadanar, who\u2019s suffering from sustaining serious head and leg injuries, is still being held in Insein prison. She has also been sentenced to a three-year jail term on charges of \u201cinciting rebellion\u201d and later received an additional 10-year sentence on charges of \u201cfinancing terrorism\u201d. In May 2023, RSF\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/rsf.us7.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=5cb8824c726d51483ba41891e&amp;id=5f4da11cf8&amp;e=10c4d6b1bc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/rsf.us7.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3D5cb8824c726d51483ba41891e%26id%3D5f4da11cf8%26e%3D10c4d6b1bc&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1704874860914000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0K4j4ZvJtqs_sFainoa97V\">called on the UN special rapporteur on the human rights situation in Myanmar<\/a>\u00a0to take up her case to seek international sanctions against the military junta.<\/h5>\n<h5>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/rsf.us7.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=5cb8824c726d51483ba41891e&amp;id=5f3bca693f&amp;e=10c4d6b1bc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/rsf.us7.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3D5cb8824c726d51483ba41891e%26id%3D5f3bca693f%26e%3D10c4d6b1bc&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1704874860914000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0KGgnTB040ru44o4id8s7G\">upheaval of the Myanmar media landscape<\/a>\u00a0began just a few days after the putsch on 1 February 2021. The junta quickly published a blacklist of banned media.
