\"\"Naypyidaw\/ Myanmar : 08 Jan 2024 -Reporters Without Borders (RSF) is relieved by the release of Myanmar photojournalist Kaung Sett Lin, but insists that he should never have been arrested. The organisation urges the military junta to free all the 64 other journalists still detained in the country.<\/strong><\/h5>\n

On 4 January 2024, Myanmar photographer\u00a0Kaung Sett Lin\u00a0<\/strong>was\u00a0released one year before the completion of his term<\/a>\u00a0under an amnesty decreed by the military junta.<\/h5>\n
The media professional was\u00a0sentenced in March 2022<\/a>\u00a0to three years in prison with hard labour on trumped-up charges of \u201cinciting rebellion\u201d, under Section 505 (a) of Myanmar\u2019s penal code. Outside the jail, he expressed to a\u00a0Radio Free Asia<\/em>\u00a0journalist his sadness at being unable to reunite with his mother, who died while he was imprisoned, and his wish to see his “remaining detained journalists brothers released<\/em>“.<\/h5>\n
A photojournalist for the\u00a0Myanmar Press Photo Agency<\/em>, he was detained in the notorious Insein prison, located in a northern suburb of Yangon, the country’s largest city, for more than two years.<\/h5>\n
