A high-level delegation of the Election Commission of Pakistan, led by the Chief Election Commissioner Mr. Sikandar Sultan Raja Sahib, visited Brazil to inspect the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) and evaluate the possibilities of its use in the electoral process. Opposition in Pakistan has cricised the visit as just time pass and waste of public money. PTI General Secretary , Umar Ayub Khan MNA, in a press conference termed the visit of CEC as of no use now when the most important election of Pakistan already held.

Election 08 Feb 2024 are still marred by rigging allegations from not only PTI but from the right wing political parties like JUI (F) and Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party. Moreover many stalwarts of ruling PMLN even have addmitted rigging in the last election. PMLN stood scond to PTI supported candidates but formed government with PPP that is said to be directed from powerful circles of the country.<\/h5>\n
On 10 Feb 2024, the then President of Pakistan Dr Arif Alvi lamented the absence of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) during the elections, stating that their implementation could have averted the current crisis. The crisis was very late results that gave rise to apprehensions of rigging and later it became a national narrative of form 45 and form 47.<\/h5>\n
Form 45 is the preliminary result of a polling station while Form 47 is the final result. PTI supported MNAs and their leaders allege that the results were made late only to alter them in between 45 and 47.<\/h5>\n
President Alvi, on 10 Feb when the whole nation in general and PTI supported candidates in particular were almost exhausted waiting the results, recalled about the prolonged struggle for EVMs, emphasising their capability to provide quick and transparent results. In his post, he highlighted that EVMs would have allowed for the separate manual counting of paper ballots, while also featuring an electronic calculator\/counter for each vote button pressed.<\/h5>\n

Election Commission spokesperson shared that currently many countries in the world are partially using EVMs in the electoral stages, but Brazil and India are two such countries where EVMs are being used at the national level. In view of the fact that Brazil’s electoral system is among the best and most technologically advanced in the world, a high-level delegation of the Election Commission decided to visit Brazil.<\/h5>\n<\/div>\n
During the three-day visit, the Pakistani delegation was led by Chief Election Commissioner Mr. Sikandar Sultan Raja Sahib while the delegation included Provincial Election Commissioner (Punjab) Mr. Ejaz Anwar Chauhan, Director General (Information Technology) Mr. Muhammad Khizr Aziz and Director Nadeem Zubair.<\/h5>\n
Election Commission spokesperson shared , “During the visit, the Pakistani delegation had useful, purposeful and constructive meetings with the heads of various departments of “Tribunal Superior Electoral (TSE)”, the organization responsible for the administration and regulation of elections in Brazil. It was organized by Secretary Communication and Multimedia, Secretary Information Technology and Head of Identification Management Department.”<\/strong><\/em><\/h5>\n
In these meetings, the Brazilian election officials gave detailed briefings to the Pakistani delegation on the electoral system in use in Brazil, its various stages and the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVM).<\/h5>\n
The important issues that were discussed during the meetings include “Measures to strengthen social trust in the electoral process”, “Introduction of Brazilian EVM”, “Identification System used in the electoral process”. and included topics such as “Special Consultation\/Guidance to Remedy Disinformation”. Practical use of EVMs was also demonstrated for the Pakistani delegation to observe.<\/h5>\n
At the end of these meetings, an important meeting was held between the Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan Mr. Sikandar Sultan Raja and the President of the Brazilian Tribunal Superior Electoral (TSE) and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Brazil, Mr. Alessandre Demorais, during which various important issues including e The use of VMs was discussed in detail.<\/h5>\n
The Election Commission will continue to further study the electoral system of Brazil in the context of the use of EVMs in pilot projects in Pakistan and to fulfill this important task, the Information Technology Wing and the Project Management Unit (PMU) of the Election Commission will jointly But they will prepare a plan of action for the future.<\/strong><\/em><\/h5>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
