The International conference in Baku is an opportunity for all to discuss the challenge, share the ideas, experiences and join the forces to overcome this threat to the whole world.<\/span> <\/em><\/strong><\/h5>\n<h5>He said this in a &#8220;Seminar on Building Climate Consensus for COP29 &#8211; The Road to Baku&#8221; that was organized in collaboration with Embassy of Azerbaijan in Islamabad on 11 May 2024. Sustainable Development Institute of Pakistan SDPI conducted the seminar at Pakistan Institute of Parliamentary Studies PIPS Islamabad.<\/h5>\n<h5>Coordinator to the Prime Minister of Pakistan on Climate Change &amp; Environmental Protection, Ms. Romina Khurshid Alam, Ambassador Khazar Nadir Oglu Farhadov and Executive Director SDPI Dr Abid Qayyum Sulehri were also present and addressed the participants.<\/h5>\n<h5>Mr. Mukhtar in his address said, &#8221; We must unite in our efforts for the sake of future generations and commit to building a greener world. Our goal is to promote climate action.Pakistan is the best opportunity for us to work together to protect nature. Our meetings on climate and COP 29 are successful. We are grateful to Pakistan for its support on climate change.&#8221;<\/h5>\n<h5>He said that every sector of life is related to climate including water, land, agriculture, food security and health etc. Snow reservoirs are decreasing affecting the agriculture and social life.<\/h5>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em><strong>Mr Mukhtar noted the importance of private sector on climate action and briefly shared his interactions with the NGOs and media in his visits to different countries in connection with COP29 arrangements. The secretariat of COP29 also have private organization on board in the preparations. But the private sector representatives from NGOs and Press , present in the seminar were deprived of even a shake hand with him, let alone exchange of ideas that are welcome by the COP29 team.<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-29416\" src=\"https:\/\/pakistanintheworld.pk\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/COP29_Baku_Pakistan.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"268\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pakistanintheworld.pk\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/COP29_Baku_Pakistan.jpg 500w, https:\/\/pakistanintheworld.pk\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/COP29_Baku_Pakistan-300x161.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/strong> <\/em><\/span><\/h5>\n<h5>The seminar was mastered by SDPI and a networking session was also mentioned on the invitation card but it was omitted and the members of NGOs and press could not meet Mr. Mukhtar for even 5 minutes at least. That was noted and disliked by the representative who attended the seminar only to have interaction with the team COP29.<\/h5>\n<h5>Mr. Mukhtar Babayev in his address shared the history of fossil fuel industry establishment in his country in the mid of 90s. The first well was dug then and first refinery was set up in Azerbaijan.<\/h5>\n<h5>He mentioned the transfer of Azerbaijan from fossil to green and said it has great potential. He said that the production of green energy has been doubled in our country. He offered that Azerbaijan can share her experiences in the production and shift to green energy.<\/h5>\n<h5>COP28 Dubai in Dec 2023 closed with an agreement that signals the \u201cbeginning of the end\u201d of the fossil fuel era by laying the ground for a swift, just and equitable transition, underpinned by deep emissions cuts and scaled-up finance.<\/h5>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"5TGfyyrV7W\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/pakistanintheworld.pk\/live\/prime-minister-pakistan-to-participate-in-cop29-looking-forward-to-discuss-bilateral-cooperation-with-president-ilham-aliyev\/\">Prime Minister Pakistan To Participate in COP29 &#8211; Looking Forward to Discuss Bilateral Cooperation with President Ilham Aliyev<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"&#8220;Prime Minister Pakistan To Participate in COP29 &#8211; Looking Forward to Discuss Bilateral Cooperation with President Ilham Aliyev&#8221; &#8212; Pakistan In the World\" src=\"https:\/\/pakistanintheworld.pk\/live\/prime-minister-pakistan-to-participate-in-cop29-looking-forward-to-discuss-bilateral-cooperation-with-president-ilham-aliyev\/embed\/#?secret=1HEWxOrw3I#?secret=5TGfyyrV7W\" data-secret=\"5TGfyyrV7W\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><em><strong>Ms Romina Khurshid Alam Khan in her address said, &#8221; Pakistan can shift from fossil fuel to green energy only when developed countries help Pakistan. Otherwise it is not possible for Pakistan. The time frame to 2025 is not enough. Pakistan supports and agrees to the transfer to green energy but it is not possible for Pakistan at present.&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h5>\n<h5>&#8220;Pakistan and Azerbaijan having fraternal relations are cooperating on COP29 as Pakistan extends full support for the success of this conference. During the visit of President COP29, both sides have discussed different aspects of the topic and identified prospects of common working on climate action.&#8221;<\/h5>\n<h5>Regarding green energy, that is the focus of COP29, She shared, &#8221; Pakistan&#8217;s National Adaptation Plan and Green Pakistan Program are important for Pakistan. Saudi Arabia has also adopted the Green Program. Pakistanis are supporting Saudi Arabia.&#8221;<\/h5>\n<h5>&#8220;The G77 Plus is also an important part of our agenda.Global warming is also an important point in Pakistan. We will further enhance our already present cordial relations with Azerbaijan into meaningful cooperation in green energy sector as well, Ms Romnia concluded.<\/h5>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><em><strong>Ambassador Khazar Nadir Oglu Farhadov shed light on 2024 as &#8220;\u201cGreen World Solidarity Year\u201d that is the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev. It expresses the resolve of the Azerbaijan nation to global climate action. The dedication towards the topic demonstrated by the leader of the state indicates that a lot of home work has already been done that will be of great help for Azerbaijan in hosting the COP29.<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h5>\n<h5>Dr Abid Qayyum Sulehri, in his opening remarks, briefed the situation in Pakistan and the response of the developed world towards the destruction borne by Pakistan during last floods on 2022. He said, &#8220;Pakistan estimated the damage done to the infrastructure about $ 30 Billion. The total GDP of Pakistan at that time was $ 300 Billion. He highlighted the state of affairs as most of the affected countries including Pakistan have less than 1 % share of carbon emissions in the world.<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h5>\n<h5>Dr Khalid Waleed, Research Fellow at SDPI screened a presentation on &#8220;Way forward for energy transition and climate action :Lessons from COP28 informing COP29.&#8221;<\/h5>\n<h5>Dr Shafqat Munir Deputy ED SDPI also addressed the guests.<\/h5>\n<h5>Before the start of the seminar, the coordinator of Prime Minister Pakistan on Youth Affairs also visited the PIPS and had a meeting with the President Designate of COP29.<\/h5>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><em><strong>The team COP29 is visiting different countries to gather suggestions, listen to the ideas, see what are the priorities of the member countries, observe the situation in climate affected nations, received the signals and evolve a strategy that can cover the maximum feed back collected in their world tours.
