Presidents of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan and other world leaders were also present at the occasion.<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-37153\" src=\"https:\/\/pakistanintheworld.pk\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Pak_Azerbaijan_UN.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"321\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pakistanintheworld.pk\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Pak_Azerbaijan_UN.jpg 500w, https:\/\/pakistanintheworld.pk\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Pak_Azerbaijan_UN-300x193.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/strong>While elaborating the purpose of the roundtable, PM Shehbaz briefed the participants that it was intended to foster new thinking on an old problem that was becoming complicated on all the international climate forums without yielding substantial results.<\/h5>\n<h5>He emphasised the urgent need to build momentum for reforming international financial architecture, \u201cforging a path where no nation is left behind in the global response to climate change.\u201d<\/h5>\n<h5>PM Shehbaz called climate financing an \u201curgent need of the hour\u201d, stating that developing countries need to deliver Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and \u201cneed an estimated $6.8 trillion by 2030 to implement less than half of their current NDCs.\u201d<\/h5>\n<h5>He underscored that the donor countries should fulfill their commitment to provide 0.7% of their gross national income as developing assistance and capitalise existing climate funds.<\/h5>\n<h5>Furthermore, the prime minister said debt cannot become the \u201cacceptable new normal\u201d in climate financing which was why the world should focus on non-debt financing solutions enabling developing countries to fund climate initiatives without depositing an additional burden.<\/h5>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"MCRzCHyY5I\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/pakistanintheworld.pk\/live\/pakistan-in-the-world-april-may-2024\/\">Pakistan in the World \u2013 April \/ May 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"&#8220;Pakistan in the World \u2013 April \/ May 2024&#8221; &#8212; Pakistan In the World\" src=\"https:\/\/pakistanintheworld.pk\/live\/pakistan-in-the-world-april-may-2024\/embed\/#?secret=VV3RNFKQgG#?secret=MCRzCHyY5I\" data-secret=\"MCRzCHyY5I\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h5>He explained that financing in the form of loans further enhance the debt of developing nations and potentially pushes them towards \u201cmounting debt traps\u201d which he referred to as \u201cdeath traps\u201d.<\/h5>\n<h5>Pakistan can understand the agony and pain of other vulnerable developing countries as it had faced two devastating floods and still recovering from the loss, he said as he highlighted Pakistan\u2019s recent experience with devastating floods.<\/h5>\n<h5>\u201cIn order to spur some transparency and coordination into the financial commitments made to the developing countries on climate transfers, Pakistan alongside many other developing countries call for stronger, more equitable climate finance mechanisms under the UNFCCC,\u201d he added.<\/h5>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>He suggested a mechanism be set up to measure the unfulfilled pledges, fragmented at an incomplete landscape of climate funds to developing countries.<\/strong><\/h5>\n<h5>\u201cWhat I call INDCs whereby major historic emitters should account for climate finance commitments for both mitigation and adaptation pledges reflecting their proportionate responsibilities,\u201d he added.<\/h5>\n<h5>The prime minister also highlighted challenges to developing countries in embracing clean energy transition to offset their carbon emission from power sector.<\/h5>\n<h5>He mentioned that the developing countries looking to enable energy transition should also get preferential capacity and technical assistance in fast tracking consortium financing through various financial instruments.<\/h5>\n<h5>He suggested the UNFCCC to setup a committee to review internationally-determined contributions (IDCs) periodically.<\/h5>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"0vydFwp9Fm\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/pakistanintheworld.pk\/live\/pakistan-in-the-world-may-june-2024\/\">Pakistan in the World \u2013 May\/June 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute;
