Islamabad,03 June 2019-The first British Airways flight has landed in Islamabad as the airline began its first service between the UK and Pakistan in 10 years.<\/p>\n

British High Commission team along with the Federal Minister for Aviation,\u00a0Advisor to the Prime Minister on Commerce, Textile, Industry & Investment, and Advisor to the Prime Minister on Overseas Pakistanis and Chairman PTDC, welcomed the aircraft in Islamabad as both the Union Flag and Pakistan\u2019s national flag were waved from the cockpit roof hatch. On-board the first flight from London was Andrew Brem, Chief Commercial Officer at British Airways.\"\"<\/p>\n

The British Airways has officially opened an office in Islamabad for the airline\u2019s local dedicated team, which is testament to the investment the airline is making in the country.<\/p>\n

The British High Commissioner Thomas Drew, Chief Commercial Officer Andrew Brem and Chief Pilot of the inaugural flight Captain Rod Young met with the Prime Minister Imran Khan.<\/p>\n

The British High Commission \u00a0arranged a press conference at Serena Hotel Islamabad which was attended by the British High Commissioner Thomas Drew, Chief Commercial Officer Andrew Brem, Federal Aviation Minister\u00a0Ghulam Sarwar Khan,\u00a0Advisor to the Prime Minister on Commerce, Textile, Industry & Investment Abdul Razak Dawood,Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Information & Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan and DG Civil Aviation Shah Rukh Nusrat.\"\"<\/p>\n

The UK\u2019s International Trade Secretary Dr Liam Fox MP:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThe relaunch of British Airways flights between the UK and Pakistan after more than ten years will be a major boost for trade between our two countries. It is no surprise that it is an iconic British airline that is the first western airline to fly return to Pakistan, a symbol of the strong and growing relationship between our two countries.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cI congratulate the British Airways team, the British High Commission and the impressive efforts of the Pakistani government for making this happen. British High Commissioner Thomas Drew said:<\/strong><\/p>\n

To a question Mr. Thomas Drew said that our cricket team will also come to Pakistan , In Sha Allah.<\/p>\n

Federal Aviation Minister\u00a0<\/strong>Ghulam Sarwar Khan said:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/em>I welcome the initiative of British Airways for resuming their flight operation in Pakistan. This shows improvement in security situation of Pakistan. In addition to this our government has intention to promote tourism by easing visa policy for other countries. For this purpose, we have started Pakistan Online Visa System, under which the online visa facility has been provided to the citizens of 175 countries. Similarly many other foreign airlines are also planning to resume their flight operations in Pakistan after seeing a conducive business environment and improved security situation in the country.<\/em>\u201d\"\"<\/em><\/p>\n

Thomas Drew successfully pleaded Pakistani diaspora’s case for British Airways revival: Firdous<\/strong><\/p>\n

Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan Monday said the British High Commissioner to Pakistan Thomas Drew successfully pleaded the case of Pakistani diaspora and nationals in the United Kingdom to revive British Airways.<\/p>\n

She made these remarks while addressing a press conference held here on the resumption of the British Airways flight operations in Pakistan.<\/p>\n

\u201cSAPM on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Zulfiqar Abbas Bukhari also deserves credit who always remains forthcoming for resolving issues of overseas Pakistanis and also played his role in resuming British Airways operations in the country,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

The arrival of British Airways, she said was an expression of trust in \u201cNaya Pakistan\u201d and its government, adding \u201cI hope that the British high commissioner will also play his role in bringing English Cricket team to Pakistan for a cricket series.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) accomplished what could not be done by previous governments.<\/p>\n

Dr Firdous said the start of flights showed that Pakistan was moving ahead on the path of progress.<\/p>\n

It merits mentioning here that the British Airways’ Boeing 787 Dreamliner took off from Heathrow, London, with 240 passengers on board, and disembarked at Islamabad International Airport around 9:15am this morning.<\/p>\n

She said the launch of these flights was a proof that the world accepted the truthful narrative of peaceful Pakistan led by Prime Minister Imran Khan.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnder the leadership of Imran Khan, we will achieve the objective of a progressive and prosperous Pakistan,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a clear message that Pakistan is no more a threat for any foreigner and it is a peaceful country. Our media has to collaborate with the British and international media to promote the true face of Pakistan and communicate the progressive and moderate image of the country to the world.<\/p>\n

The British Airways will help to bridge those gaps and they will bring people together. It will help us to develop a platform to promote our tourism, cultural and bilateral ties. Sialkot Airport of my constituency is also waiting for British Airways to start its operations in the city to help increase economic hub\u2019s connectivity to the United Kingdom,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Flights will run three-per-week on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday from London Heathrow, operated using a three-class Boeing 787 Dreamliner with World Traveller (long-haul economy), World Traveller Plus (long-haul premium economy) and Club World (long-haul business class).<\/p>\n

Customers travelling can expect bespoke services to enhance the on-board experience including a halal meal option in every cabin, while the airline will also ensure sauces in every meal do not include alcohol or pork. As with any British Airways flight, customers can also pre-order a range of special meal options including vegetarian and vegan options.<\/p>\n

The airline has a number of Pakistani and British Pakistani colleagues who speak Urdu, and there has already been considerable interest from these colleagues to work on the flights.<\/p>\n

British Airways\u2019 long-haul flights include extremely generous hand baggage allowances \u2013 one large cabin bag with a small laptop or handbag – complimentary food and drink, online check-in and free seat selection 24 hours prior to departure. Customers landing in to London can connect on to British Airways\u2019 network which includes over 30 destinations across North America, with over 70 flights per day to the US through the airline\u2019s joint business with American Airlines. Customers can also connect to over 30 countries in Europe.<\/p>\n
