\nLadies and Gentlemen,<\/h4>\nAssalmu Alaikom, good evening and welcome to the \u201cAfrica Day 2019\u201d celebrations.<\/h4>\nIt gives me great pleasure to speak to you tonight on the occasion of \u201cAfrica Day\u201d as a representative of Egypt, the current Chair of the African Union for this year.
\nLadies and Gentlemen,<\/h4>\n\u201cAfrica Day\u201d is a celebration that we Africans deeply cherish, as it commemorates the foundation of the first Pan-African organization on the 25th of May 1963, which was entitled \u201cthe Organization of African Unity\u201d; later to be changed in 2002 into \u201cthe African Union\u201d.<\/h4>\nThe celebration started under the title \u201cAfrica Freedom Day\u201d, when some of the African countries were still under occupation before being later changed to its current title \u201cAfrica Day\u201d.![\"\"](\"https:\/\/pakistanintheworld.pk\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/africa-day-group.jpg\")

\nAllow me to highlight some of Egypt\u2019s efforts during its AU chairmanship for this year.<\/h4>\nEgypt works on realizing and implementing the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which will boost the trade between African nations;<\/h4>\nEgypt also fully supports the implementation of the first 10-year plan of the Agenda 2063, which acts as a blueprint and master plan for transforming Africa into the global powerhouse and delivering inclusive and sustainable development for the citizens of all African nations.<\/h4>\nEgypt also works on the creation of the African Infrastructure Alliance (AIA), as an international umbrella for donors, and international companies to help African nations mobilize international financial and technical resources for the development of the continent\u2019s infrastructure.<\/h4>\nEgypt works on completing the (Victoria-Mediterranean project) which aims at creating a river-based transportation link between Lake Victoria and the Mediterranean Sea;<\/h4>\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/pakistanintheworld.pk\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/64275689_3087395671278505_3326750344561557504_o-1024x717.jpg\")

In this regard, Egypt hosted and launched the \u201cAswan Forum for Peace and Sustainable Development\u201d as a high-level dialogue among key stake-holders in Africa to create a true Pan-African reference point for peace and sustainable development.<\/h4>\nEgypt hosted this year a wide variety of African events that included the African Conference on Human Rights, The Arab-African Youth Forum, and Summits on Libya and Sudan.
