{"id":52488,"date":"2025-09-23T15:30:44","date_gmt":"2025-09-23T15:30:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pakistanintheworld.pk\/live\/?p=52488"},"modified":"2025-09-23T15:30:44","modified_gmt":"2025-09-23T15:30:44","slug":"pakistan-asean-ambassadors-pledge-to-boost-trade-and-economic-ties","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakistanintheworld.pk\/live\/pakistan-asean-ambassadors-pledge-to-boost-trade-and-economic-ties\/","title":{"rendered":"Pakistan, ASEAN Ambassadors Pledge to Boost Trade and Economic Ties"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-52490 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/pakistanintheworld.pk\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/ASEAN-Pakistan-e1758641286505.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"454\" \/>Islamabad, September 23, 2025 \u2014 Federal Minister for Commerce Mr. Jam Kamal Khan hosted Ambassadors of 07 ASEAN member states at the Ministry of Commerce in Islamabad today, reaffirming Pakistan\u2019s commitment to expand trade, investment, and people-to-people links with Southeast Asia.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting was attended by the Ambassadors and senior diplomats of Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam and Myanmar, underscoring the breadth of ASEAN representation in Islamabad.<\/p>\n<p>Welcoming the Ambassadors, Mr. Jam Kamal Khan said Pakistan seeks not only to increase bilateral trade but also to build comprehensive, long-term partnerships in technology, skills, and infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll ASEAN countries already enjoy cordial relations with Pakistan, but there is immense potential to go further. Through technology transfer, value addition in agriculture, and a skilled human resource base, we can take our trade from the current level to its true potential,\u201d the Minister observed.<\/p>\n<p>He briefed the Ambassadors on Pakistan\u2019s new trade policy, the vehicle import policy, tariff rationalization measures spearheaded by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and progress toward a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the GCC.<\/p>\n<p>He stressed that Pakistan is a gateway to Central Asia, with its ports gaining importance under new transit trade agreements that cut costs for regional partners.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-52491\" src=\"https:\/\/pakistanintheworld.pk\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/ASEAN-Pakistan-Islamabad-e1758641392531.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"270\" \/>He also urged ASEAN companies to invest in Pakistan\u2019s Special Economic Zones under CPEC, citing improved macroeconomic stability \u2014 inflation now in single digits \u2014 and a business climate geared toward foreign investment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPakistan welcomes you to export to Pakistan, add value here, and then re-export your products,\u201d he said, calling for stronger multilateral trade links.<\/p>\n<p>He also shared the formation of a Trade Dispute Resolution Commission, a first in Pakistan\u2019s history, to help international companies resolve disputes swiftly.<\/p>\n<p>The ASEAN envoys welcomed Pakistan\u2019s outreach and said the region sees \u201cgreat potential\u201d in expanding commercial cooperation. The Malaysian Ambassador offered Pakistani firms a role in Malaysia\u2019s growing chip-making industry, while other envoys highlighted existing ASEAN investments in Pakistan\u2019s construction and power generation sectors.<\/p>\n<p>All Ambassadors expressed appreciation for Pakistan\u2019s hospitality and agreed on the need to accelerate bilateral trade and investment flows, including through religious tourism, skills exchanges, and supply-chain partnerships.<\/p>\n<p>ASEAN, founded in 1967, now represents one of the world\u2019s fastest-growing markets.
