The Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt celebrated the opening of the Great Egyptian Museum GEM in Islamabad that is , what H.E. Dr. Ihab Abdelhamid, the Ambassador rightly said is a truly historic moment and a new home for the treasures of ancient Egypt.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) has been fully inaugurated on Novmber 1, 2025. The opening ceremony was attended by Egyptian president Abdel Fatah El-Sisi, the First Lady, as well as representatives of foreign countries and prominent public figures. Among the guest were King Philippe of Belgium, King Felipe VI of Spain, Queen Rania of Jordan, Greece’s Prime Minsiter Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orb\u00e1n, Germany’s President Frank\u2011Walter Steinmeier and others.<\/p>\n

The Embassy of Egypt hosted a reception in Islamabad to mark this big achievement of their country. H.E. Dr. Ihab Abdelhamid, the Ambassador and staff of the embassy enthusiastically welcomed the guests at Hotel Movenpick for introduction to GEM and to celebrate the remarkable accomplishment of a national as well as international task to preserve the human heritage of thousands of years for the next generations.<\/p>\n

The Grand Egyptian Museum stands as an architectural masterpiece. With a cost of over one billion dollars, it covers an impressive area of 480,000 square meters. Designed under the auspices of UNESCO, the museum was envisioned as a \u201cfourth pyramid\u201d \u2014 a stunning visual and symbolic extension of its ancient counterparts.\"\"<\/p>\n

A documentary was screened to better apprise the guests from different walks of life especially gov officials , ambassadors and media persons. Head of Africa Desk at Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pakistan Amb Hamid Asghar Khan graced the occasion with his presence. From diplomatic community, ambassadors of Libya, Morocco, Sudan, Jordon, Oman, Italy, Greece, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, diplomats from Palestine and South Africa also participated.<\/p>\n

The guests showed keen interests in the replicas of renown artcrafts of ancient Egypt displayed at the event. Informative booklets were also available for the guests free of cost to read the articles with related pictures and have the knowledge about where, when, how to visit the tourist attractions in Egypt.<\/p>\n

Ambassador extend a warm welcome to\u00a0 friends from the international community, saying, their presence reflects the shared appreciation of humanity\u2019s cultural heritage and our collective commitment to preserving it for future generations.<\/p>\n

Ambassador in his introductory remarks shared , “This museum is not only the largest archaeological museum in the world, but also a symbol of Egypt\u2019s deep respect for history, culture, and knowledge. It stands proudly near the Great Pyramids of Giza \u2014 uniting our glorious past with our modern vision for the future.”<\/span><\/p>\n

H.E. Dr. Ihab Abdelhamid briefed the guests, ” Through this museum, Egypt opens its doors to the world \u2014 inviting all nations to explore the story of human civilization written on the banks of the Nile. It is a story of creativity, resilience, and timeless beauty.”<\/p>\n

” The journey of the Grand Egyptian Museum is, in itself, a story of perseverance and vision. The vision extended beyond the museum\u2019s walls \u2014 integrating it with the broader development of the Giza Plateau, Sphinx International Airport, and key highways, transforming the entire region into a world-class cultural and tourism destination, Ambassador condinued.<\/p>\n

\"\"The true jewel of the museum lies in its collection<\/strong> <\/em><\/span>\u2014 more than 100,000 artifacts, including the complete, breathtaking treasures of King Tutankhamun, displayed together for the first time in history. Enhanced by cutting-edge technology and augmented reality, these exhibits bridge between the past and the present, bringing the story of ancient Egypt to life in a way never seen before.<\/p>\n

Ambassador encourage the tourism and travel agencies in Pakistan and across the international community to work closely with their partners in Egypt to organize cultural tours and travel programs to the Grand Egyptian Museum. H.E was confident that this extraordinary destination will offer unforgettable experiences for visitors of all ages, and further strengthen the growing tourism ties between Egypt and Pakistan.<\/p>\n

Ambassador spoke highly on relations with Pakistan as , ” It is also worth noting that Egypt and Pakistan have long enjoyed a deep and enduring friendship \u2014 founded on mutual respect, cultural understanding, and close cooperation. Just as the Nile and the Indus have given life to two great civilizations, our nations continue to stand together in pursuit of peace, progress, and prosperity.”<\/p>\n

” I warmly invite all our friends \u2014 from Pakistan and beyond \u2014 to visit the Grand Egyptian Museum, to walk through 7000 years of history, and to witness how Egypt\u2019s timeless heritage continues to inspire the future, H.E concluded.<\/p>\n

The Grand Egyptian Museum is an archaeological and national museum in Giza, Egypt, the largest museum in the world for a single civilization. It is located about two kilometers (1.2 miles) from the Giza Pyramid Complex.<\/em><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The museum was announced in 1992, actual construction began in 2005, and it was fully completed in 2023 at a cost of $1.2 billion. Trial opening began in October 2024, and the official opening took place on 1 November 2025.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The museum houses a collection of Egyptian artifacts from various periods of the Egyptian civilization, from the Predynastic Period to Coptic Egypt, with an estimated total of over 100,000 artifacts, including at least 20,000 that will be displayed for the first time ever, including the complete King Tutankhamun collection comprising 5,398 pieces.<\/em><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The Tut collection is on display in a 7,500 m2 section of the museum. Some newly-restored pieces will be displayed for the first time, such as the second solar ship of Khufu,the collection of Queen Hetepheres (mother of King Khufu), and the collection of Yuya and Thuyu (parents of Queen Tiye).<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The museum extends over a total area of 500,000 m2 (5,381,955 sq ft), with a built-up area of 167,000 m2 (1,797,573 sq ft) and floor area of 81,000 m2 (872,000 sq ft). It will also host permanent exhibition galleries, temporary exhibitions, special exhibitions, a children\u2019s museum, and virtual and large-format screens with a total floor area of 32,000 m2 (344,445 sq ft).<\/em><\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
