ISLAMABAD : The Embassy of Bosnia & Herzegovina in collaboration with Iqra University H-9 campus and media organization \u201cPakistan in the World\u201d celebrated the Statehood Day , 25 Nov with youth of Pakistan at the social sciences department of the university. At this occasion, famous movie \u201cQuo Vadis Aida\u201d and the message of President Dr. Denis Becirovic were screened for the students who participated in large number.<\/p>\n

Ambassador H.E. Mr. Emin \u010cohodarevi\u0107 graced the event with his presence. He was warmly recieved by the Head of department Dr. Sheharyaar on arrival at the University premises alongwith Chief Executive of Media organization Mr. Tazeen Akhtar.<\/p>\n

Statehood Day<\/strong> commemorates the 1943 ZAVNOBiH (State Anti-fascist Council for the National Liberation of Bosnia and Herzegovina) session. This historical event established Bosnia and Herzegovina as a united and indivisible republic with its historical borders, and as an equal constituent in the Yugoslav federation.<\/p>\n

\"\"Quo Vadis, Aida?<\/strong> is a Bosnian war film that portrays the July 1995 Srebrenica massacre, from the perspective of Aida, a UN translator.Directed by Jasmila \u017dbani\u0107, the film follows Aida as she attempts to save her family from the encroaching Serbian army while working at the UN base. The film has received numerous accolades, including an Oscar nomination for Best International Feature Film and multiple European Film Awards.<\/p>\n

President Dr Denis Becirovic<\/strong> in his address to the nation, and screened in the event, said, the membership of NATO and European Union are our strategic goals. We are indivisible part of Europe and our future is in NATO and Europe.<\/p>\n

\u201d Our homeland needs the statesmen who are ready to fight for the realisation of the vision of a European and democratic Bosnia and Herzegovina. Our children deserve a peaceful and secure future, President stressed.<\/p>\n

\"\"He added, \u201cThe statehood day reaffirms our commitment to human rights and civil liberties. The idea of ZAVNOBiH points to unity, peace and tolerance that is more relevant than ever before. We must never bow down to destructive forces.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ambassador H.E. Mr. Emin \u010cohodarevi\u0107<\/strong> in his address, expressed gratitude to Iqra University for collaboration in holding this activity on the statehood day of his country.<\/p>\n

He spoke highly about the young students. He said, \u201d It is always a pleasure to speak to students because I know I am speaking to Pakistan\u2019s future scholars, leaders and entrepreneurs. Meeting such enthusiastic dedicated young people who will accomplish great things make me feel very optimistic about this country\u2019s future. And the potential I see in this room is as promising as the potential I see for Bosnia and Herzegovina \u2013 Pakistan friendship in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"H.E shed light on the history of Statehood<\/strong> to enlighten the students. He shared, \u201cBosnia and Herzegovina\u2019s Statehood Day is celebrated on November 25, commemorating the day that Bosnia\u2019s statehood was restored by Anti-Fascist Council of National Liberation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in 1943. On this day, the antifascist liberation movement passed the decision to restore the country\u2019s statehood within its historic borders.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBosnia and Herzegovina once again confirmed its multicultural and multi-ethnic history and reaffirmed that its citizens would be entitled to equal rights. Today, we honor Bosnia Herzegovina\u2019s statehood and its multi-ethnic and multi-confessional history and we celebrate the country\u2019s vibrant culture and institutions, Ambassador noted.<\/p>\n

On bilateral relations,<\/strong> Ambassador said , \u201cThe multifaceted relations between our two countries have witnessed a steady growth during last thirty years characterized by friendship , mutual respect and understanding. If you have a friend a far who knows your heart, distance can not keep you apart. Now 3000 miles can no longer keep Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan apart. Instead, the relationship serves as a bond or a bridge linking our two countries.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"He shortly narrated the real story of Aida<\/strong> on who the movie has been produced. He said, \u201cIt is not coincidence that we chose this moment to screen the film \u201cQuo vadis Aida?\u201d, as we mark the Statehood day of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Quo Vadis, Aida? is a drama about a UN translator, Aida, in Srebrenica, a town in Bosnia, who tries to save her family from the Srebrenica genocide in July 1995, highlighting the failure of the UN peacekeepers and Aida\u2019s desperate fight for survival.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201d Aida\u2019s drama and her emotions are the heart of the story. I would like you to take away the feelings and questions the film raises. How many things would have been different if we had more empathy and solidarity? Did this tragedy have to have such a terrible outcome? Ambassador moved the minds of the participants.<\/p>\n

The spacious auditoriam of the university was packed with large number of students and faculty from different departments. The students took keen interest in the history and status of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Ambassador answered their questions.<\/p>\n

H.E had a round of the university. He held a separate meeting with Dr. Sheharyaar in which the sides discussed educational cooperation between the universities of both countries. They agreed to continue the engagements to further explore the ways forward to joint ventures.<\/strong><\/p>\n
