The Embassy of Romania celebrated the National Day in Islamabad with a significant presence of the Government of Pakistan, parliamentarians, civil military officials, diplomats, civil society, business community and media persons. The national anthem were not played in routine manner but sang by the singers from both sides. A female singer from Romania sang her anthem in her melodious voice that enthralled the audiance.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dr. Dan STOENESCU , Ambassador of Romania hosted a grand reception to mark their auspicious day and also the 61 years of relations with Pakistan. Dr. Oana Ursache, was also present at the occasion. She is professor of Romanian Studies, who will teach Romanian language for the first time in the history of Pakistan at the National University of Modern Languages (NUML).\"\"<\/p>\n

Romania on 1st December marks the Great Union of 1918, when various Romanian regions came together as a unified state. The day carries symbolic value for Romanians, serving as a moment to reaffirm national unity and the principles that guide the country\u2019s path toward security, stability and growth.<\/p>\n

Federal Minister for Railways, Muhammad Hanif Abbasi was the chief guest while Minister of Investments Qaisar Ahmad Shaikh, Minister Poverty Alleviation Imran Shah, Governor KP Faisal Karim Kunddi, Parliamentary Secretary Barrister Danial Chaudhary, Farah Naz Akbar, Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, National Heritage and Culture Division also graced the celebration with their presence. Additional Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, Amb Hamid Asghar Khan also attended the reception.<\/p>\n

Chief Guest, Minister Hanif Abbasi,<\/strong><\/em> in his address,\u00a0 warmly congratulated the Government and people of Romania, noting that the National Day commemorates a historic moment when diverse regions came together to form a united and modern Romanian state. He highlighted that this day symbolizes the strength of national unity, cohesion, and the resolve to shape a prosperous future.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Pakistan\u2013Romania relations,<\/strong> Minister Muhammad Hanif Abbasi emphasized that Romania is a valued and trusted partner of Pakistan within the European Union and beyond.<\/p>\n

He noted the longstanding friendly ties between the two nations and appreciated Romania\u2019s cooperation in areas such as trade, education, development, and institutional support. The Minister reaffirmed Pakistan\u2019s desire to expand bilateral cooperation and expressed confidence that both countries can further enhance their partnership in the coming years.<\/p>\n

The Federal Minister stated that events like today\u2019s celebration provide an opportunity to deepen mutual understanding, strengthen diplomatic engagement, and promote cultural and economic cooperation between Pakistan and Romania.<\/p>\n

Extending best wishes to the Romanian people,<\/strong> Muhammad Hanif Abbasi expressed hopes for Romania\u2019s continued peace, growth, and prosperity, reiterating Pakistan\u2019s commitment to further solidifying the friendship between the two nations.\"\"<\/p>\n

Ambassador Dr. Dan STOENESCU , earlier in his welcome address, shed light on the history of the National Day as mentioned above. He spoke highly on relations and cooperation with Pakistan.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

H.E, the Ambassador said, Romania used its National Day celebrations to reflect on 61 years of relations with Pakistan, outlining new diplomatic, cultural, educational and economic steps that have strengthened the partnership over the past year. More than six decades are marked by cooperation, respect and steady engagement between the two countries.<\/p>\n

Romania has taken several steps in the past year to broaden its presence in Pakistan, he said while highlighting the opening of the Romanian Honorary Consulate in Peshawar<\/strong> was one of the key developments, with upcoming honorary consulates planned for Karachi and Lahore<\/strong>. These initiatives are intended to improve outreach, promote exchanges and strengthen diplomatic channels.<\/p>\n

The Ambassador hoped to further enhance cooperation, as he travelled widely across Pakistan, meeting government representatives, business leaders and industry groups in cities such as Karachi, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi and Peshawar. These visits helped advance discussions on trade, investment and business opportunities, creating room for direct collaborations.\"\"<\/p>\n

Dr. STOENESCU shared , One of the major milestones this year was the launch of the first Romania-Pakistan IT Forum.<\/strong> More than 100 companies from both countries joined the initiative, which created new connections between technology firms and opened space for future work in digital innovation and information technology.<\/p>\n

Defence cooperation<\/strong> also progressed. High-level military exchanges took place in both directions, reflecting a growing level of understanding between the two armed forces and reaffirming continued collaboration, Ambassador noted.<\/p>\n

\"\"He said people-to-people links also became more visible during the year. Romania and Pakistan increased cultural, academic and media exchanges to strengthen mutual understanding. The first edition of Romanian Cultural Days<\/strong><\/em> in Pakistan was organised in November, offering film screenings, musical performances and art exhibitions in Karachi and Islamabad. These events introduced Pakistani audiences to Romanian creativity and cultural diversity.<\/p>\n

Ambassador said, the academic partnerships also received a boost. Romanian universities expanded cooperation with Pakistani institutions<\/strong> <\/em>including NUST, GIFT and NUTECH. A significant step came with the establishment of the first Romanian language<\/strong><\/em> lectorate in Pakistan at NUML. The presence of a Romanian lecturer, Dr. Oana Ursache, marks an important step in deepening academic and cultural ties\"\"<\/p>\n

Ambassador spoke extensively on bilateral relations and cooperation and started his address in Urdu that spread smiles on the faces of the guests who were astonished on his fluency in Pakistani language.<\/p>\n

He noted that cooperation has continued to expand across culture, education, trade, security and technology. He expressed confidence that both countries will continue to build on these achievements, deepening their partnership and creating new opportunities for future collaboration. He reaffirmed Romania\u2019s commitment to strengthening ties and celebrating the enduring friendship between the two nations.<\/p>\n

On regional dynamics <\/strong><\/em>, the Ambassador remarked that nations today operate in a more diverse and multi-polar global environment where sovereignty and the right to make independent decisions remain central principles. He said current regional challenges in Europe have not altered Romania\u2019s commitment to its national goals, ensuring the safety of citizens, strengthening the economy and promoting long-term development.<\/p>\n

He highlighted the impact of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine<\/strong><\/em>, describing how drone attacks on Ukrainian ports along the Danube brought the effects of the war close to Romanian territory. These strikes prompted alerts in Romanian border areas, underscoring the wider security risks in the region.\"\"<\/p>\n

“Recent steps taken by NATO and the European Union, including the Eastern Sentry initiative and Eastern Flank Watch, were mentioned as efforts to reinforce regional defence. He also cautioned that frequent violations of Allied airspace by Russian drones and aircraft must not be treated as routine.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ambassador STOENESCU emphasized<\/strong><\/p>\n

He said Romania, sharing the longest border with Ukraine among NATO members, has been active in strengthening collective defence measures. He reaffirmed Romania\u2019s continued support for Ukraine, stressing that this support aims to help secure a lasting peace and bring an end to the conflict. He added that Romania remains committed to defending its sovereignty and democratic principles while contributing to regional and global security.<\/p>\n

The ambassador also noted that the Republic of Moldova<\/strong> continues to face security pressures, including attempts to destabilise its political landscape. Romania strongly supports Moldova\u2019s path toward European integration and maintains close cooperation to address shared challenges.<\/p>\n

He said that although global dynamics are shifting rapidly, Romania\u2019s foreign policy remains anchored in several key pillars<\/strong>:\u00a0 its membership in the European Union, its role in NATO, its strategic partnership with the United States and its cooperation with global partners. These foundations continue to shape Romania\u2019s diplomatic work and international engagement.<\/em><\/p>\n

The sides, at this occasion, noted that ties between the two countries have expanded across political, economic, academic and cultural sectors, demonstrating a shared commitment to a long-standing partnership.<\/p>\n
