\"\"ISLAMABAD :\u00a0 President of Islamic Republic of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari has congratulated President Miguel D\u00edaz-Canel Berm\u00fadez on the Triumph of the Revolution Day of Cuba (1 January 2026)<\/strong><\/p>\n

He said in his message, “On behalf of the people and Government of Pakistan, I extend warm greetings and sincere congratulations to President Miguel D\u00edaz-Canel Berm\u00fadez and the people of the Republic of Cuba on the occasion of the Triumph of the Revolution Day.”<\/p>\n

Pakistan and Cuba share a long history of friendship and cooperation. This relationship is often remembered and tested in the moments of hardships and tribulations. In the aftermath of the devastating 2005 earthquake, Cuba responded with extraordinary solidarity.<\/p>\n

It sent over 2,400 physicians, nurses and paramedical personnel and established 32 field hospitals in the most severely affected areas of Pakistan, a humanitarian contribution that Pakistan continues to remember with deep gratitude.<\/p>\n

\"\"“Marking a renewed chapter in our relationship, this selfless assistance led to a reinvigoration of bilateral engagement, with closer cooperation and the subsequent restoration of resident diplomatic presence in both countries, President Zardari mentioned.<\/p>\n

He added, as we reflect on seven decades of diplomatic relations, I am confident that Pakistan and Cuba can further strengthen cooperation and expand people to people contacts to bring our societies closer.<\/p>\n

Finally , he wished the people of Cuba continued peace, prosperity and progress, and reaffirm Pakistan\u2019s desire to further enhance the bonds between our nations.<\/p>\n

Here it is worth noting, that the Embassy of Cuba in Islamabad is the least active mission in Pakistan for last 5 years. The last ambassador posted in Islamabad Mr. Z\u00e9ner Javier Caro Gonz\u00e1lez <\/em>assumed his charge in June 2021 and since then the bilateral relations have not been further activated and promoted. He , soon after joining the service, fell ill and went low profile.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

In Oct 2025, the sides marked the twentieth anniversary of the arrival of the first flight of the Cuban Medical Brigade \u201cHenry Reeve\u201d to Pakistan, following the devastating earthquake that had ravaged the northeast of the country six days earlier. The 7.6 magnitude earthquake caused 86,000 deaths, around 100,000 injuries, and left some three million people homeless.<\/p>\n

After the devastating 2005 earthquake in Pakistan, Cuba offered a significant medical scholarship program, providing 1,000 full scholarships for Pakistani students to study medicine in Cuba, which continues to benefit Pakistan’s health sector.<\/strong><\/p>\n
