The son of late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, Saif al Islam Gaddafi, has been killed, sources close to the family, his lawyer Khaled el-Zaydi and Libyan media said on Tuesday. Earlier in late Dec 2025, Libyan army chief was hit in his aircraft when he was returning home after signing an agreement in Turkiye for expansion of Turkish forces in GNU’s Libya for two more years.<\/p>\n

The killings of prominent personalities and security officials at GNU side portray a picture that shows something big is happening behind the curtains and the only beneficiary of all incidents or accidents is none other than the side of General Haftar.<\/p>\n

Saif al-Islam\u2019s office said in a statement on Tuesday that he had been killed during a \u201cdirect confrontation\u201d with four unknown gunmen who broke into his home. Further details were not made public.<\/p>\n

A political team linked to Saif al-Islam Muammar Gaddafi said on Tuesday that he was killed during an armed attack at his home in the city of Zintan during Noon time. The group said four masked men entered Gaddafi\u2019s residence and tried to disable security cameras. A confrontation then took place, during which Saif al-Islam was killed.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

It was yet another dark day for Libya. Saif al-Islam Gaddafi was assassinated in what many consider a cowardly act, occurring while he was living a low-profile life in a secret residence in the western city of Zintan.<\/p>\n

A source close to the Gaddafi family told Al-Hadath TV Channel that Saif al-Islam Gaddafi was killed in the garden of his home, where he had been living for the past 10 years.<\/p>\n

In Libya, pro Haftar media was sharing fake pictures of the dead body and was blaming that GNU Prime Minister is behind the murder. This media reported to spread the speculations in most of its reports.<\/p>\n

” Reports circulating on social media claim that a body believed to be Saif al-Islam Gaddafi has been found, with allegations that he was assassinated by Brigade 444, led by Mahmoud Hamza. The brigade is affiliated with the UN-backed Government of National Unity, headed by Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh.”<\/p>\n

While various political factions are busy trading blame, the primary responsibility lies with the UN-backed Government of National Unity (GNU). Since Zintan falls directly under their administration, the government is ultimately answerable for the security breach.<\/p>\n
