\"\"Twenty-nine countries on Thursday signed an agreement in Shanghai on establishing the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO).<\/p>\n

The WAICO will be an independent intergovernmental international organization headquartered in Shanghai, according to the agreement.<\/p>\n

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, signed the agreement on behalf of the Chinese government.<\/p>\n

Representatives from the 29 countries, including Kazakhstan, Laos, Pakistan, Russia and Indonesia, signed the agreement, making their countries the WAICO’s founding members. The United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was among representatives from countries and international organizations present at the signing ceremony.<\/p>\n

The organization will uphold the purposes of the UN Charter, be committed to extensive consultation and joint contribution for shared benefit and adhere to a people-centered approach, according to the agreement.<\/p>\n

It aims to promote international cooperation and global governance on AI, ensuring that AI is beneficial, safe and fair, thereby promoting its healthy and orderly development to benefit all humanity.<\/p>\n

\"\"Deputy Prime Minister\/Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar @MIshaqDar50, along with the Pakistan delegation, attended the opening ceremony of the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai this morning, which was addressed by H.E. President Xi Jinping, following the establishment of WAICO last night through the signing of the agreement by the Founding Members, including Pakistan.<\/p>\n

Pakistan supports inclusive and equitable global AI governance, wider access to emerging technologies, capacity-building for developing countries, and enhanced international cooperation to bridge the digital divide and ensure that the benefits of artificial intelligence are shared by all.<\/p>\n

Ms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Minister for Information Technology & Telecommunications; Mr. Ali Mustafa Dar, Adviser to the Chief Minister of Punjab on Artificial Intelligence and Special Initiatives; Mr. Bilal Bin Saqib, Chairman of the Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (PVARA); and Dr. Syed Asad Ali Gillani, Additional Secretary (Asia Pacific) were also present in the conference.<\/p>\n
