The Pakistan Army leadership has successfully concluded its four-day high-level visit to Benghazi, hosted by the Libyan National Army under Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, without incident.
The Pakistan Army is a highly experienced force, shaped by decades of conventional warfare, counter-insurgency, proxy conflicts, and intelligence operations. It has fought multiple wars and consistently held its ground against its 5 times larger neighbor, India.
After 9/11, militancy spilling over from Afghanistan triggered one of the worst waves of terrorism in Pakistan’s history. The military and intelligence services responded with sustained, precise operations, dismantling extremist networks that exploited religion, local customs, and poverty to hide within society.
Pakistan also played a pivotal role, alongside the United States and Afghanian forces, in resisting the Soviet/Russian invasion of Afghanistan.
Beyond visible conflicts, it has waged a decades-long “silent war” to protect its strategic assets, particularly its nuclear program, from foreign intelligence services, including those of Western states, Israel, Russia, and India.
While countries like Iran have seen their nuclear infrastructure compromised through precision strikes and targeted assassinations by Israeli Airforce , Pakistan’s military and intelligence apparatus has consistently foiled such operations covertly.
More recently, Pakistan strengthened its regional role through expanded defense cooperation with Saudi Arabia, including mutual defense and security agreements, reflecting high international trust in its armed forces.
Against this backdrop, the presence of nearly the entire senior leadership of Pakistan’s armed forces in Benghazi, including the army, intelligence, navy, and air force chiefs, along with other senior officers, carries particular significance.
These figures are considered high-priority targets in global security assessments, and their movements are never taken lightly.
As a result, the decision of the top military and intelligence leadership to land in Benghazi and operate under Libyan protection is not possible without gaining the solid trust of Libyan military’s leadership under field marshal Khalifa Haftar.
It signals strong confidence in the professionalism and of the Libyan National Army, showing that the Libyan military under Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar is organized, secure, and stronger than widely recognized.
