Tashkent/ Uzbekistan; Mohammad Ali – Editor “Pakistan in the World” current affairs international matters magazine and Daily Azkaar Urdu newspaper from Islamabad Pakistan met with Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan Kozimjan Kamilov on the eve of Presidential Elections Day 24 Oct in Tashkent Press Center.
CJS Kozimjan shared to a question that complete code of conduct in the election process is followed in Uzbekistan. We have articles 146 and 147 in our criminal code that empowers the courts to award upto 3 years of imprisonment if someone if found making hurdles in election process or if someone is proved for hindering the casting of votes.
“Administrative faults or wrong doings are also being checked. The courts can take action and impose fines as well if any complaint from any candidate is proved against any election or administrative officer, personnel.” CJS continued.
Mr. Kozimjan was very welcoming for Pakistan. He expressed his warm feelings for Pakistan. He said that Pakistan is our brotherly country and we have a large number of commonalities. He wished the best for Pakistan.
It was 01 PM on 24 Oct 2021 and the votes polled till that time were estimated 10.4 Million all over the country. This number makes 50 % of total votes registered in Uzbekistan.
CJP said that the judiciary is monitoring the election process. Our staff and judges watched the polling today and they found no problem anywhere. Today’s election is based upon the election code of conduct. Judiciary played a role in free and fair election in the shape of training our officers for this process down to the district level since July 24. (3 Months time)
CJP shared that many amendments had been introduced to the code of conduct. Administrative courts are looking after this process. The courts received 226 complaints during previous election but ,now have not received any complaint from any side.
