Healthy Planet for Healthy Life – Pakistani Delegation Participates at Stockholm+50 International Meeting

Stockholm : 03 June 2022 – A high level delegation of Global Strategic Institute for Sustainable Development (GSISD) participated at Stockholm+50 international meeting on healthy planet for healthy life. Executive Director Engr. Qaiser Nawab addressed the Leadership Dialogue 2 at the United Nations International Meeting Stockholm+50. The theme was “focusing on sustainable and inclusive recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.”
He said that there is a need bring science, technology and innovation to the central stage to support peace and dignity of planet. He highlighted the issues related to rapid urbanization, industrialization, and prioritization and their deep impacts on climate change by focusing on current heat waves in south Asia.
“The destruction of nature and life on this planet is inevitably linked to the unlimited expansion of the greedy capitalist system. Due to its exploitative functionalist nature, capitalist culture is contradictory to the right to life and international HUMAN RIGHTS charter. At this critical turning point, it is the market which decides the relationship between human beings, nature, and science.” He added.
Qaisar Nawab said that there is a need to rethink scientifically and transform the system in which we are all operating. The inherent contradictions of the existing system posed serious question on our common sense and everyday life. The primary question is, who are benefiting from this system? Why are all these sustainable initiatives not being translated into the welfare of the most vulnerable among us?
We need to re-evaluate our whole frameworks and definitions of sustainability. We believe that sustainability can be achieved through investing on science through collaboration and partnership which is a core essence of goal number 17.
This collaboration should specifically emphasize meaningful stakeholder representation. He stressed on scientifically oriented collaborative mechanism for unity towards sustainability. He proposed following suggestions for the betterment and conservation of environmental resources.
Scale Science and Environmentally friendly impact technologies engaging youth and millennial.
Promotion of the scientific spirit and greener recovery from the pandemic
Scientific exchange programs in the form of south-south and south-south-north-triangular cooperation.
Acceleration of Scientific collaboration and exchange visits, especially between UN entities and public funding mechanisms
Global legislation on cryptography and decentralized Artificial Intelligence and block-chain technologies
Qaiser highlighted that Global Strategic institute for Sustainable Development (GSISD), are struggling to bridge public policies and sustainability through the promotion of scientific knowledge, collaborative research and advocacy.
GSISD needs more support for achieving the global goals through the promotion of science, collaboration and networking. He added
The Leadership Dialogues is to contribute to the outcome of Stockholm+50 by yielding clear and concrete recommendations and messages for action at all levels. They aim to mobilize the global community behind strengthened cooperation and accelerated innovative action.
Each of the three Leadership Dialogues will be presided over by two Co-Chairs—one from a developing country and one from a developed country—that are appointed by the two Presidents of the international meeting.
