VIENNA/NEW YORK/GENEVA/ADDIS ABABA, 26 June 2019 – Improved research and more precise data have revealed that the adverse health consequences of drug use are more severe and widespread than thought. Globally, some 35 million people, up from an earlier estimate of 30.5 million, suffer from drug use disorders and require treatment services, according to the latest World Drug Report, released today by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
