Islamabad: 30 December 2025 — President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari has expressed concern over reports of an attack on the residence of President Vladimir Putin, cautioning that such incidents risk undermining ongoing efforts aimed at a peaceful resolution of the conflict. Ukraine has rejected “the attack” as just Russian manipulation.

From Pakistan, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari, both issued statement on the alleged attack that Ukraine denies.

Prime Minister Pakistan condemned the “reported” targeting of the residence of Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation. He said, Such a heinous act constitutes a grave threat to peace, security, and stability, particularly at a time when efforts aimed at peace are underway.

” Pakistan expresses its solidarity with the President of the Russian Federation, and with the government and people of Russia. We reiterate our firm rejection of all forms of violence and acts intended to undermine security and threaten peace, Prime Minister added.

The President said that at a critical moment, when talks to end the war are at a sensitive stage, actions that escalate tensions are extremely counterproductive. He urged both sides to exercise the highest degree of restraint and to direct their actions towards the success of dialogue and diplomacy.

President Zardari emphasised that peace remains the only viable path forward and that restraint and responsibility are essential to prevent further deterioration of the situation.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told journalists earlier in the day that overnight to December 29 the Kiev regime had attempted a terrorist attack on President Vladimir Putin’s state residence in the Novgorod Region with the use of 91 long-range combat drones. All of them were jammed by Russian electronic warfare tools, he said, adding that no casualties or damage were reported.

In turn, Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov said that during a phone call with Trump, Putin drew attention to Kiev’s attack, which took place “almost immediately” after the US-Ukraine talks in Mar-a-Lago, and warned that it would not go “unanswered.” The Russian leader also told Trump that Moscow’s position in negotiations to resolve the conflict would be revised.

The Foreign Minister of Ukraine , Mr. Andrii Sybiha has categorically rejected the Russian manipulations regarding the alleged “attempt to attack Putin’s residence” in a statement shared on his X account.

He said , such manimulations are fabricated for only one reason: to create a pretext and false justification for Russia’s further attacks against Ukraine, as well as to undermine and impede the peace process.

He added, Usual Russian tactic: accuse the other side of what you are doing or planning yourself. First, Russia has already struck the Ukrainian government building this year.

Second, he continued,  Ukraine only strikes legitimate military targets in the Russian territory—in response to Russian strikes at Ukraine.

Third, Russia is the aggressor, and Ukraine is the country that has been attacked and defends itself according to article 51 of the UN Charter. There can be no false equivalence between the aggressor and the country defending itself.

He urged the world to condemn provocative Russian statements aimed at derailing the constructive peace process. Ukraine remains committed to peace efforts led by the United States, with the participation of European partners.
