Pak Iran Foreign Ministers Discuss Return of Ambassadors & Close Coordination on Counter Terrorism

ISLAMABAD: 19 Jan 2024 – Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani spoke with the Foreign Minister of Iran, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, today. Underscoring the close brotherly relations between Pakistan and Iran, the Foreign Minister expressed Pakistan’s desire to work with Iran based on spirit of mutual trust and cooperation.
The Foreign Minister stressed that respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty must underpin this cooperation.
The two Foreign Ministers agreed that working level cooperation and close coordination on counter terrorism and other aspects of mutual concern should be strengthened. They also agreed to de-escalate the situation.
The return of Ambassadors of the two countries to their respective Capitals was also discussed.
Ambassador of Iran to Pakistan Dr Reza Amiri Moghadam has noted on X, “The two brotherly, friendly & neighborly countries of #Iran & #Pakistan have always supported each other in different arena & hard times during the history. With common threats & interests, all-out potentialities & opportunities, the bilateral ties don’t tolerate any lag & delay.

“Iran is fully committed to the territorial integrity of brotherly country of Pakistan . Threats like terrorism are common, also interests. Uniquely non-competitive interests  complementary economy provides a fertile ground to promote geo-economy, SDO, security & welfare in region, Dr Reza added.
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan of Turkiye called Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani to discuss the ongoing developments between Pakistan and Iran. FM shared Pakistan’s perspective and the recent developments. He stated that Pakistan’s Operation Marg Bar Sarmachar was aimed at terrorist camps inside Iran and that Pakistan has no interest or desire in escalation.
