Pakistan and Uzbekistan enjoy very close and cordial relations and cooperation at all levels weather it is government level or business to business , people to people and last but not the least education and intellectual level as well. We have centuries old bonds that are expressed by our willingness to meet again and again. May be that was why I was again in Uzbekistan in Oct after July 2021. First visit was to cover Central Asia South Asia Connectivity Conference 15-16 July hosted by Gov of Uzbekistan and second visit was to cover Presidential Election 24 Oct 2021.
Samarkand has always been a romance to visit for many like me. In Samarkand I planned to visit Samarkand State Medical Institute. I knew already that many Pakistani students of MBBS are studying here. The Institute is approved by Pakistan Medical Commission. I am thankful to Gov of Uzbekistan to arrange my visit to this historical, highly esteemed university and institute.
Vice Rector Mr. Zafar Zayirovich Aminov welcomed at the main entrance warmly and took us to the meeting room. He gave presentation about the past present of the university and prospects of the future.
Samarkand State University -Samarkand State Medical Institute Rector Professor Rizayev Jasur Alimjanovich, Doctor of Medicine Science and Vice Rector Mr. Zafar Zayirovich Aminov have welcomed Pakistani students for MBBS and other courses in their university and institute. They have said that this year second group of Pakistani students is taking admission in MBBS. At present their number is 300. When the number of students will reach to a certain level, we will give scholarships to Pakistani students.
They said this in meeting with Editor Tazeen Akhtar who called on both officials at their office on 26 Oct 2021.
Vice Rector Mr. Zafar Zayirovich Aminov gave an informative presentation about the University and the Institute.Samarkand State University was founded on January 22,1927 by the Decision of the Government of Uzbekistan with the name of the Higher Pedagogical Institute (1927-1933), transformed into the Uzbek State Pedagogical Academy (1930- 1933) in 1930 and State University of Uzbekistan in 1933 (1933-1941). In 1944, Uzbek State University was reorganized into the Central Asian University (now the National University of Uzbekistan) in connection with the Second World War and State University of Uzbekistan was renamed in 1944 (1944-1960), and since 1960 the University is called as “Samarkand State University”.
Samarkand State Medical Institute – The oldest medical institution in Central Asia, which performs qualitative training of medical personnel of the highest qualification. The institute is located in the most beautiful Samarkand city, which for centuries was a center of scientific thought and outstanding culture. The history of the Samarkand State Medical Institute dates back to May 1930, when the Uzbek State Medical Institute was founded by Resolution No. 80 of the Council of Folk’s Commissars of Uzbekistan of May 7.
