31 Aug – Independence Day of Kyrgyz Republic – Cooperation with Pakistan Growing

Islamabad; On August 31, 1991, the Supreme Soviet of the Kyrgyz SSR adopted a declaration of independence of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The Islamic Republic of Pakistan became one of the first countries in the world to recognize independence and on May 10, 1992 established diplomatic relations with the Kyrgyz Republic.

The Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan was established by the Decree of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic in May 2006.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan, the President, the Prime Minister and the Toraga of the JK of the Kyrgyz Republic have visited Pakistan twice, and two Presidents and four Prime Ministers of Pakistan have also visited Kyrgyzstan.

In order to promote the development of trade and economic cooperation, the Kyrgyz-Pakistani Joint Ministerial Commission on Trade and Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation is functioning. In total, 3 JMC meetings were held in 2003, 2007 and 2017.

About 8000 Pakistani students study at various universities of the Kyrgyz Republic (mainly in medical universities).

Since 2017, the Kyrgyz-Pakistani International Institute of Medical Sciences has been operating at the MUK.

In December 2018, in Islamabad, the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic, together with the Embassy of the Russian Federation, organized a screening of the film “White Steamer”, a documentary film, a photo exhibition and Aitmatov Readings dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Ch. Aitmatov.

In December 2019, in one of the largest industrial centers of Pakistan – the city of Gujranwala, under the auspices of the Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic to the IRP, the 3rd Pakistani Mass Wrestling Championship was held with the participation of about 500 athletes representing 26 teams from all over the country, guests from Russia, USA and Kyrgyzstan. During the event, the Embassy of Kyrgyzstan also organized a photo exhibition dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic and the 30th anniversary of the state status of the Kyrgyz language, performance of national dance and Kyrgyz music.

It has become a tradition that the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in Pakistan annually conducts events to preserve the snow leopard and protect the environment within the framework of environmental diplomacy.

On February 7 this year, the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic organized an exhibition “Art for the preservation of the snow leopard”, and on March 3 this year. held a World Wildlife Day celebration at the National University of Computer Science and Emerging Sciences in Islamabad on the theme “Sustaining All Life on Earth.” During the events, the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic informed about the tourism opportunities of Kyrgyzstan, and also showed videos about the country and the snow leopard.
