Tashkent, Uzbekistan : Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan visited the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex in Almalyk city near Tashkent as part of Pakistan’s efforts to strengthen cooperation in the mining sector with Uzbekistan. The complex is a major copper producer in the region.
During his visit, Minister Jam Kamal Khan toured various sections of the facility, including the mines, concentration section, and smelter, to assess potential collaboration opportunities. He was received at the factory by Uzbekistan’s Minister for Mining and Geology, Mr. Bobir Farhodovich Islamov, along with Mr. Abdulla Khursanov, Chairman of the Almalyk complex.
Accompanying the Federal Minister for Commerce were Federal Minister for Investment Abdul Aleem Khan and Secretary Petroleum and Mining Momin Agha. They were also joined by Uzbekistan’s Minister of Investment, Industry, and Trade, Mr. Laziz Kudratov, and Minister for Mining and Geology, Mr. Bobir Farhodovich Islamov.
Speaking on the occasion, the ministers emphasized the importance of enhancing bilateral cooperation in copper mining. “On the directions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, we are here to explore opportunities for cooperation in copper mining between Pakistan and Uzbekistan,” they stated.
The visit is part of an official delegation led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, aimed at strengthening economic and industrial ties between the two countries.

He was accompanied by Uzbekistan’s Minister of Investment, Industry, and Trade, Mr. Laziz Kudratov, along with Mr. Ata Ullah, Trade and Investment Counsellor at the Embassy of Pakistan.
Upon arrival, the delegation was received by Mr. Abdulla Azizov, Chairman of the Pharm Agency Uzbekistan, who briefed them on the park’s history, achievements, and facilities available for pharmaceutical industries.
The minister toured various departments of the park, gaining insights into its advanced infrastructure and research capabilities.
During the visit, Minister Jam Kamal Khan highlighted the significant opportunities for collaboration between the pharma park and Pakistani medical universities, and herbal medicine industries. He emphasized the need for strengthening bilateral ties in the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors to enhance research, production, and trade.
The minister also visited the park’s warehouse facility, reviewing its storage and logistics capabilities. The visit underscored Pakistan’s commitment to fostering stronger trade and investment relations with Uzbekistan, particularly in the growing pharmaceutical sector.
