Yemeni armed forces have begun Dawn of Yemen, a “strategic offensive” on Sanaa, spokesperson for Yemen’s armed forces, using advanced capabilities in the strategic offensive operation. Yemeni forces said Sunday that 260 Houthi militia members were killed in 97 operations targeting military reinforcements in Taiz and Lahj provinces. Yemeni forces have secured the control of Bab al Mandaeb as well.

Colonel Majed Abdullah al-Nuzaily, the official spokesperson for the Yemeni Armed Forces aligned with the country’s internationally recognized government has confirmed between 04-05 Oct 2026.

Yemen’s Information Minister Moammar Al-Eryani tells Al Arabiya English that government forces have secured control of the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, with the Southern Giants Brigades capturing Dhubab Airport and the main road linking it to the strategic waterway. Houthi forces in the area and on Mayyun Island have been encircled, he says, as military operations continue to clear remaining areas along Yemen’s western coast.
Dawn of Yemen refers to the large-scale military operation launched today, October 5-6, 2026, by the Yemeni government.
The phrase symbolizes the government’s attempt to turn the page after losing territory around the Red Sea in September, when Houthi offensives displaced 145,000 people and encircled Taiz. In short, “Dawn of Yemen” is being used as both a military codename and a political slogan — a new dawn after 11 years of war.

Yemen’s Saba news agency quoted Armed Forces spokesman Col. Majed Abdullah al-Nuzaily as saying the operations targeted Houthi militia reinforcements on the Tur al-Bahah front in Lahj and in the Taiz sector.

“The operations involved warplanes, drones, artillery, missiles and snipers, and resulted in the killing of 260 militia members and the destruction or disabling of 44 military vehicles and transport and supply vehicles,” al-Nuzaily said.

He added that the Yemeni Air Force carried out strikes against key Houthi militia targets in Sanaa and Saada.

Al-Nuzaily said the Houthi militia’s capabilities would remain within reach of Yemeni Armed Forces fire and would be destroyed.

Earlier until Saturday, the Yemeni Armed Forces had regained control of the al-Maqarimah and al-Zakirah areas in al-Shamayatayn district, as well as the strategic Jabal al-Jasha’a south of Taiz province.

The Saudi-led coalition said on Monday that it was offering support to the “Dawn of Yemen” Operation after it was launched by the Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council chief Rashad al-Alimi earlier in the morning.

Spokesman for the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen Maj. Gen. Turki al-Malki said that 100 fighter jets participated at dawn today in the operation.

Al-Malki said that 324 high-value targets have been destroyed as Operation “Dawn of Yemen” got underway. He noted that the coalition was providing air protection for Bab al-Mandeb Strait as well as air cover for Yemeni armed forces on the ground and “around the clock.”

President of the Presidential Leadership Council Rashad al-Alimi announced:”Operation ‘Dawn of Yemen’ has been launched to end the Houthis and to liberate the capital Sana’a. Yemen will march toward a new dawn of freedom, peace, and stability.”
What it is: Objective: To restore state institutions, retake all territory under control of the Iran-backed Houthi militia, and liberate Sana’a, which has been under Houthi control since 2014.
Scope: The Yemeni Armed Forces spokesman said over 1,000 strikes against Houthi artillery, rocket launchers, fortifications, and supply lines.
Key Front: Bab al-Mandab Strait. Government forces — including the Southern Giants Brigades and Nation’s Shield Forces — announced they have retaken Dhubab district, Dhubab airport, and control around the strategic Bab al-Mandab, a vital chokepoint for 12% of world trade.
Coalition Support: The Saudi-led Coalition announced 100 fighter jets are participating, destroying 324 high-value targets and providing air cover for the strait.
