Conspiracies abound online regarding the infamous Patent WO2020060606 filed on behalf of the Bill Gates Foundation describing a cryptocurrency system that uses body activity data. From claims of New World Order machinations to doomsaying about the loss of financial freedom, the minds of our society have come up with creative ways to discredit a scientific advancement that holds incredible promise for the future.
The popularity of cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology’s incredible potential and safety has been largely ignored by most financial institutions globally. Bill Gates, being the visionary he has always been, seems one step ahead of the crowd.
People usually imagine that things will remain perfect for the foreseeable future. History has proven this is never the case, and disruption comes when least expected. The woeful state of many economies and governments in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic further highlights this inherent fallibility in most institutions.
Building more resilient infrastructure and processes requires a departure from the technologies and methods we consider “Standard.” That is precisely the direction Bill Gates has provided the world, a fresh perspective and hope for a better future.
Given that most financial systems are now integrated into the cloud and rely heavily on the internet for operations, it is evident that for any ill-intent-driven actor, the most destructive course of action would be a cyberattack against financial institutions.

Though the direction of this particular patent may not be the same, the intent and possibilities are more exciting and rewarding than many people realize. As always, resistance to change has been a bump on the road to human progress, but we don’t let the opinions of sheep stop us!
