The Algerian government expresses its deep regret and deep concern over the tragic clashes between India and Pakistan. A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Algeria, in this regard, reads as ;
” Within the framework of the discussions held in the UN Security Council, as well as during the telephone conversations held by the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, with his Indian counterpart, Mr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, and his Pakistani counterpart, Mr. Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Algeria issued an urgent call for restraint, just as it called for the political and diplomatic path to prevail over the use of force.”
Algeria has renewed this call on 07 May with greater determination, because the violent clashes recorded last night between the two countries carry serious risks to peace and security in the entire region
” Therefore, the top priority in this particular circumstance should be to encourage both parties to exercise self-restraint, calm, and a sense of responsibility in order to resume dialogue, which alone can spare India and Pakistan and their peoples the hardships and repercussions of a conflict they have the capacity and wisdom to overcome, the statement concludes.
