Algeria Embassy Celebrates 71st Anniversary of the Glorious Revolution , National Day in Islamabad | Pakistan Expresses Commitment to Enhance Cooperation in All Fields

    Report : Tazeen Akhtar | Pictures : Raja Ghulam Farid + Sultan Bashir        The strength and depth of Algeria Pakistan relations and cooperation is an example for many in the world as well as in Africa specifically for their historical struggle for independence and their joint efforts to end the colonialism from their respective regions. This unique chemistry of their close ties and mutual trust was observed, by latest at the celebration of the 71st Anniversary of the National Day,  historic Glorious Revolution of November 1, 1954 of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria in Islamabad on 31 Oct 2025.

    The Ambassador of Algeria HE Dr. Brahim Romani hosted a magnificent and well attended reception at Serena Hotels Islamabad. Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan was the chief guest while a large number of officials from government of Pakistan were also present.

    Ambassadors, diplomats, parliamentarians, members of the business community, civil society and media were also present. Coordinator to Prime Minister on Tourism, Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan, Additional Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs ,Head of  Africa Desk Amb Hamid Asghar Khan also graced the occasion with his presence.

    Interesting and notable was the representation of all major regions of the world with respective ambassadors sitting at the stage. This was a unique arranement cared by the host ambassador that is rarely seen in other diplomatic celebrations.

    The hall was decorated with Algerian colors with portraits of the President of the Republic HE Abdelmadjid Tebnoune in which he was addressing to the guests at different occasions including his keynote address at the recent Intra Africa Trade Fair IATF 2025 held in Sep.

    It is worth noting here about IATF 2025 that the participating companies and groups from whole Africa signed deals of approximately USD 48 Billion that speaks a lot about Algerian trade potential and emerging economy as third biggest and soon becoming the second in the continent.

    Pakistani newspapers and magazines published special editions to mark the auspicious day of Algerian nation. Algeria’s remarkable transformation into a modern state with accelerated pace of growth in all fields and sectors under the able leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune was highlighted in the special supplements.

    The Ambassador and the chief guest pledged their strong commitment to further strengthen bilateral ties and diversify the cooperation between two countries. The event was organized and attended  with great fervor and a spirit of friendship.

    The Ambassador’s speech and the celebrations underscore the strong diplomatic relations between Algeria and Pakistan, as well as Algeria’s growing presence on the international stage.

    Mr. Haroon Akhtar extended warm congratulations from the government and people of Pakistan to the people of Algeria on their National Day, highlighting the strong bilateral relations between Pakistan and Algeria. He emphasized the shared values and objectives of both countries, including their commitment to peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.

    Mr. Haroon Akhtar, praising the longstanding ties based on shared values and common objectives on international forums, expressed his desire to further strengthen cooperation between Pakistan and Algeria in various fields, including trade, industry, and investment. He also highlighted the cultural ties between the two nations and emphasized the importance of people-to-people contacts in fostering greater understanding and cooperation.

    The event provided an opportunity for Akhtar to reaffirm Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening its relations with Algeria. He underscored the importance of diplomatic ties and cooperation between the two nations.

    The chief guest said, ” Through mutual cooperation, Pakistan and Algeria can move forward together in industry, innovation, and prosperity. Extending heartfelt congratulations to the government and people of Algeria on their National Day, he wished continued progress for the North African nation and reaffirmed Pakistan’s desire to strengthen bilateral friendship.”

    The celebrations and Akhtar’s address demonstrate the strong friendship and cooperation between Pakistan and Algeria. The two countries are likely to explore new avenues for collaboration in the future. Haroon Akhtar concluded his address highlighting the strong bilateral relations and shared values between Pakistan and Algeria.

    Ambassador HE Brahim Romani shared in detail the examplry journey of his country from independence with a poor economy to now as rapidly growing nation with shared prosperity with the neighboring states in shape of connectivity infrastructure and joint ventures.

    Ambassador Dr. Brahim Romani expressed his gratitude to the guests for joining the celebrations and reflected on the historical significance of Algeria’s National Day.

    The Ambassador emphasized his commitment to further strengthening the multifaceted partnership between Algeria and Pakistan.

    Dr Brahim Romani spoke highly on the enduring friendship between Algeria and Pakistan, recalling that Pakistan was among the first nations to support Algeria’s liberation struggle during the 1955 Bandung Conference and later at the United Nations.

    “We recall with pride and gratitude Pakistan’s unwavering support during our revolution and after independence in 1962,” he said.

    The host ambassador highlighted the deep-rooted solidarity between the two countries, which continues through close coordination in regional and international forums, including their cooperation as non-permanent members of the UN Security Council.

    Both countries, he said, share firm commitments to multilateralism and the just causes of oppressed nations, especially Palestine and Western Sahara.

    “Algeria as a strategically significant country, the largest in Africa and the Arab world is positioned as a bridge between Africa, Europe, and Asia, ambassador noted.

    He noted that under President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s leadership, Algeria is witnessing rapid economic growth and modernization, with a GDP of around $270 billion in 2024 and projections to reach $400 billion by 2027.

    He added , ” Algeria has become a major energy and industrial hub, producing 50 billion cubic meters of gas annually and hosting over 17,000 new investment projects under a reformed investment law that equally benefits local and foreign investors. He also mentioned Algeria’s leadership in Africa’s start-up ecosystem, with more than 10,000 active companies.”

    On Intra-African Trade Fair hosted by Algeria 04-10 Sep 2025 with participation from 132 countries and trade contracts worth $48.3 billion, Ambassador Romani said it reflected Algeria’s growing role as a leading center for business and regional integration.

    Dr. Romani invited Pakistani investors and entrepreneurs to explore Algeria’s vast opportunities in energy, mining, agriculture, and manufacturing. He emphasized that the two brotherly nations could build new economic bridges under Pakistan’s “Engage Africa” policy.

    “Algeria stands ready to strengthen partnerships with Pakistan and to open new avenues of cooperation across the public and private sectors,” he said.

    The event provided an opportunity for both sides to discuss avenues for enhancing collaboration, particularly in trade, industry, and investment, building upon the existing foundation of mutual respect and support. The ceremony served as a reaffirmation of the strong bilateral ties and mutual cooperation between the two nations.
