Azerbaijan Language and Culture Center Reopened at Ntional University of Modern Languages after Renovation in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD : Monitoring Desk – The opening ceremony of the renovated Azerbaijan Language and Culture Center was held at the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) in Islamabad on 19 Feb 2026. The Center was renewed through the cooperation of the Azerbaijan University of Languages and the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Pakistan.

The ceremony was attended by Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Khazar Farhadov, NUML Rector Shahid Mahmud Kayani, and other guests. A video address by the Rector of the Azerbaijan University of Languages was also presented during the event.

Students Hira Niaz and Hafsa Rashid recited Azerbaijani poetry. The Center aims to promote the study of the Azerbaijani language and to foster cultural and academic cooperation between the two brotherly countries.

Thus Azerbaijan Language and Culture Center has been reopened at  one of Pakistan’s most prestigious higher education institutions.

Addressing the event, NUML Rector Shahid Mahmood Kayani noted that the activity of the Pakistan Cultural Center at Azerbaijan University of Languages (AUL) and the Azerbaijan Language and Culture Center at NUML contributes significantly to enhancing the existing multifaceted relations between the two countries.

In his video message, Kamal Abdulla, AUL Rector, stressed the importance of educational cooperation in boosting bilateral relations grounded in solid foundations and deep historical roots.

Ambassador Khazar Farhadov highlighted the rapidly developing Azerbaijan-Pakistan relations, including the operation of direct flights from Baku to Lahore and Islamabad, the activity of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission, and the working groups formed within the commission.

According to him, the Azerbaijan Language and Culture Center, which has been operating since June 2022, contributes to deepening bilateral relations across scientific, educational, cultural, and humanitarian domains.

Azerbaijani (Azərbaycan dili) is the sole official language of Azerbaijan, spoken by the majority of its population, with Russian acting as a common de facto second language.
