Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani visited the Minsk Tractor Plant (MTZ), where he reviewed its production capabilities and modern agricultural machinery.
The delegation was informed that more than 70,000 Belarus tractors have been supplied to Pakistan over the years. Discussions focused on the resumption of tractor assembly in Pakistan, increased exports, modern agricultural equipment and technology cooperation.
The visit to the MTZ Museum-Industrial Center of Labor Glory provided an insight into the plant’s 80-year industrial history and achievements. Chairman Senate also signed the Book of Honoured Guests.
The engagements underscore Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening parliamentary diplomacy and expanding economic, industrial, agricultural and technological cooperation with Belarus.
Belarusian tractors have modern and classic line-ups range from compact utility models to high-horsepower giants (spanning roughly 50 hp to over 500 hp, such as the heavy-duty Belarus 5425).
Global Footprint: Exported to over 100 countries worldwide, renowned for mechanical simplicity, durability, and cost-effectiveness.
Models
MTZ-2 / MTZ-5: Legendary early Soviet-era wheeled tractors that pioneered mass-production on pneumatic tires.
MTZ-80 / MTZ-82: Highly popular, classic four-wheel-drive utility tractors famous for mechanical resilience and ease of field repair.
Modern Line-up: Includes high-tech models like the Belarus 1523 and massive high-horsepower units built for extensive industrial and farm work.
Presence in Pakistan
Historical Supply: Over 70,000 Belarus tractors have been supplied to Pakistan over the decades for agricultural mechanization.

Irani Tractors
“Irani Tractor” generally refers to agricultural machinery manufactured by the Iran Tractor Manufacturing Company (ITMCO), the largest tractor producer in the Middle East, based in Tabriz. Originally founded in 1968 as a joint venture with Romania, ITMCO transitioned to manufacturing heavily under Massey Ferguson licenses in 1976. Today, its products are sold globally under the domestic ITM brand.
In markets like Pakistan, these tractors—particularly the legendary ITM 285 (Irani 285)—are highly regarded for their immense pulling power, heavy-duty built quality, and affordable maintenance.
Popular ITMCO Tractor Models
ITMCO builds a robust lineup ranging from 38 HP up to 150 HP:
ITM 240 (47 HP): A compact, highly fuel-efficient 2WD/4WD tractor designed for small-scale cultivation, orchards, and light haulage.
ITM 285 / 285 New (75 HP): The most popular and legendary “Irani Tractor”. Built on the reliable legacy Massey Ferguson 285 design, it features a locally built rugged Motorsazan engine, making it a staple for heavy agricultural operations.
ITM 475 / 485 (75–82 HP): Modernized medium-tier workhorses equipped with upgraded 4-cylinder water-cooled Motorsazan direct-injection engines.
ITM 399 / 1500 (100–150 HP): High-horsepower, heavy-duty machines built for deep plowing, massive industrial layouts, and intense terrain handling.
Market Presence & Imports in Pakistan
While local giants like Millat Tractors (Massey Ferguson) and Al-Ghazi Tractors (New Holland) dominate domestic factory bookings, Irani tractors are highly sought after through commercial import channels and secondary markets. Because they utilize robust, simplified mechanical parts compatible with standard Perkins/Massey systems, local technicians find them exceptionally easy to repair and maintain.
Tractors in Pakistan are vital for the agricultural economy, with Millat Tractors and Al Ghazi Tractors dominating the local manufacturing and supply market.
