China has launched the world’s first pure electric cargo container ship over 10,000 tons, the “Gezhouba,” with a 13,740-ton deadweight.
The 130m vessel uses 12 box-type lithium battery units for a 500 km range and is expected to cut about 617.5 tons of fuel and ~2,052 tons of CO2 emissions per year.
It will operate on the Yangtze River, signaling a bigger push toward cleaner, smarter inland shipping.
