Islamabad/ Kyiv – 19 May 2021 – Minister of Defense of Ukraine Andriy Taran met with the Commander-in-Chief of the Army of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, General Kamar Javed Bajwala.
The Minister of Defense of Ukraine informed about the security situation in the temporarily occupied territories and around the borders of our country, possible options for its further development, and assured of commitment to the principles of resolving the conflict in the East of Ukraine with political and diplomatic measures.
General Kamar Javed Bajva, in turn, noted the noticeable increase in the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which counter Russian aggression, expressed understanding of Ukraine’s European integration aspirations and assured of its readiness to continue to support Ukraine in the international arena.
Separately, the parties discussed the state of implementation of Ukraine’s defense reform, as well as the prospects for the development of bilateral cooperation. In particular, the Head of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry noted that powerful steps in the transformation of the security and defense sector contribute to deterring the aggression of the Russian Federation and further Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine. And the National Security Strategy of Ukraine and the Military Security Strategy of Ukraine have provided a legislative framework for the implementation of a five-year cycle of qualitative transformations in the field of defense.
“The Armed Forces of Ukraine are a fighting army defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state. Therefore, one of the most important tasks for the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine is to provide our military units and units with modern samples of weapons and military equipment,” Andriy Taran emphasized.
Andriy Taran also confirmed his interest in intensification of cooperation in military and military-technical cooperation. The Minister of Defense of Ukraine informed the delegation of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan about the possibilities of enterprises of the domestic defense-industrial complex, about the latest developments of military equipment of national production, which are already used by units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during combat missions. Much attention was paid to the novelties of the defense system, which are at the final stage of development.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Army of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation with Ukraine, noting that it was time to expand long-term defense cooperation.
“The high level of trust between both countries, confirmed by more than a dozen years of cooperation, takes our relations to a new level of mutual understanding. Ukraine and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan continue to deepen cooperation in the military-technical direction. Defense cooperation between our countries is the locomotive of bilateral ties and creates favorable prerequisites for the further intensification of Ukrainian-Pakistani relations”, said Andriy Taran.
The parties discussed the prospects of cooperation between the defense ministries of the two countries within the framework of the working group on military and military-technical cooperation, the next meeting of which is scheduled this year in Pakistan.
