General Elections 2019 of Islamabad Cycling Association (ICA)

Islamabad-The General Elections for ‘Islamabad Cycling Association – ICA’ were held at Adventure Complex, Garden Avenue,Shakarparian National Park, Islamabad on January 24, 2019. Dr. Haroon Roedad Khan as President, Mr. Muhammad Naeem Murtaza as Senior Vice President, Mr. Muhammad Haroon General as General Secretary & Mr. Bilal Abdul Razzaq as Finance Secretary along with other office bearers were elected during the elections.

Dr. Haroon Roedad Khan (President – Islamabad Cycling Association) in his address said that cycling should be a way of life for in Islamabad. Islamabad can very quickly be transformed onto a cycle friendly city. He further stated that resilient efforts are to be under taken to make the Capital a safer cycling hub for members of the general public; and that the primary focus of the association will be to promote & develop the sport of cycling in the Capital, as not only being environment friendly, healthy & communal sport, but also as an alternate to motorized modes of transportation. 

Mr. Muhammad Naeem Murtaza (Senior Vice President – Islamabad Cycling Association) added that a dedicated and combined struggle from a single platform such as ICA will reap better results than individual, disorganized efforts. He further added that the construction of a Cycling Velodrome for Islamabad will be one of the high priority agenda items.

Mr. Muhammad Haroon General (General Secretary – Islamabad Cycling Association) informed that permission has been sought from the Pakistan Sports Board to conduct cycling races within the premises of the Islamabad Sports Complex once a month; and the plan to organize cycling event in the coming month is already underway. Also a strategy is being devised to start various cycling clubs/teams in different schools of Islamabad.

Election Commissioner Mrs. Natalya Kamal, accompanied by Mr. Ramzan Qasuri (Associate Secretary – Islamabad Sports Board) & Mr. Nisar Ahmed (Vice President – Pakistan Cycling Federation) were present to conduct the election process. They wished the new executive committee all the best for the promotion of cycling

Representations from all the registered groups of Islamabad (namely: Critical Mass Islamabad, MTB Islamabad, AeroCycling, The Do Good Mob, Islamabad Run With Us, Islamabad Roadies, Early Morning Riders & Crank Nation/Rolling Ibex) were available at the General Elections.
