The government and the Embassy of Greece in Islamabad remained reluctant to establish any business promotion system with Pakistan, assuming Pakistan may not cooperate because Pakistan is friend of Turkiye but a Greek female entrepreneur, acting with a practical approach, has taken a lead in setting up the first Greek Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry GPCCI in Islamabad.
Khalid Malik has been appointed the President of GPCCI (Pakistan Chapter). He is a renown businessman and former Vice President of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He held the position of the head of diplomatic committee of ICCI for many years. In this position he played key role in connecting the diplomatic community of Islamabad with ICCI. He is President of English Speaking Union of Pakistan.
An oath taking ceremony was held in this regard with the presence of former caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar ul Haq Kaakkar who appreciated the launch of GPCCI and assured his cooperation for smooth working of the chamber.
Founder and President of GPCCI Europe, Ms Rubina Markopoulou was present at this occasion. She also heads Greek Morocco Business Cooperation Initiative.
She briefed the guests about the composition of the GPCCI and its working in Europe as facilitator and supporter of B2B contacts among the business communities of the respective countries. She welcomed Mr. Khalid Malik to the team and expressed her confidence in his abilities to further enhance the business ties among the countries.
Khalid Malik expressed his gratitude to Ms Markopoulou and pledged to leave no stone unturned for the promotion of trade and economic activities in Pakistan from the plateform of GPCCI.
Mr. Kaakkar , in his address, congratulated the parties and said that Greece is important country for Pakistan as it is the gateway to Europe. He shed light on the historic relevance of Greece in this regard.
Dean of Diplomatic Corp, Ambassador Turkmenistan H.E Atadjan Movlamov, representatives of the business community of Islamabad, officials, diplomats, civil society members and media persons also attended the ceremony.
