Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi received a high-ranking Tajik delegation in Tehran on Saturday and stressed deepening diplomatic and economic cooperation between the two neighbors. Iran and Tajikistan have stressed the need to accelerate the implementation of bilateral cooperation in rail, road, air, port, and logistics sectors.
The high-ranking Tajik delegation held talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Tehran on Saturday, as part of an official visit aimed at deepening diplomatic and economic cooperation between the two neighbors.
The Tajik delegation that the Iranian foreign minister received at the compound of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tehran included Tajikistan’s Minister of Energy and Water Resources Dalir Juma, Minister of Transport Azim Ibrahim and Deputy Foreign Minister Farrokh Sharifzadeh, as well as a group of businessmen.
Bilateral relations and regional and international developments were the topics discussed by the two sides.
Earlier in the day, the Tajik delegation had met and held talks with Mohsen Paknejad, Iran’s Oil Minister, to review energy cooperation capacities, with the Iranian side describing the meeting as an opportunity to explore partnership potential with Tajikistan.
Transport and Logistics
Minister of Roads and Urban Development Farzaneh Sadegh has met with Tajik Minister of Energy and Water Resources Daler Juma and Transport Minister Azim Ibrohim, according to Iran’s Ministry of Roads and Urban Development.
During the meeting, Sadegh pointed to an increase in international rail freight between the two countries in 2025, saying the growth demonstrated the depth of bilateral ties and the administration’s emphasis on transport diplomacy.
She said the Chabahar–Zahedan railway would become operational within three months, noting that track-laying had been completed.
Chabahar could help Tajikistan develop a logistics hub and gain access to international waters, she added.
Sadegh also welcomed Tajik investment in Chabahar Port and Tehran’s Aprin dry port, inviting Tajik officials to visit the facility.
Water and Electricity
Iran and Tajikistan have explored ways to expand cooperation in water and electricity, with Iran expressing readiness to provide technical assistance for improving and developing Tajikistan’s power grid.
According to Iran’s Energy Ministry, Iran’s Energy Minister Abbas Aliabadi held talks with Tajikistan’s Minister of Energy and Water Resources Daler Juma, discussing prospects for broader economic, technical, cultural and scientific cooperation between the two countries.
Aliabadi highlighted the deep historical and cultural ties between Iran and Tajikistan, saying the two sides discussed future cooperation in areas including culture, tourism, science and technology, water and electricity.
Addressing challenges facing Tajikistan’s electricity network, Aliabadi said Iran was prepared to cooperate technically with Tajikistan to help improve and develop its power sector.
The Iranian minister also emphasized Tehran’s strategy of strengthening relations with neighboring countries, describing Tajikistan as a country with deep and historic links to Iran. He noted that people in some border areas of the two countries have family ties, adding that stronger cooperation with neighbors would contribute to greater regional solidarity.
Juma, for his part, said the meeting focused on expanding economic, commercial, technical and cultural cooperation and stressed the importance of increasing trade relations between Tajikistan and Iran.
The two sides also discussed shared dams, energy and logistics, cultural and information-related issues, and human-resource development in power plants.
In the end, Juma expressed hope that the talks would yield positive results, similar to their previous meeting.
