Tourkham Terminal (Muhammad Ali Tipu) The dream of connecting Central and South Asia seen by President of Uzbekistan and Prime Minister of Pakistan is becoming a reality ispite of all hurdles of proxy and critical situation in Afghanistan. A convoy of trucks from Uzbekistan with trade goods crossed Tourkham Terminal on 03 Nov 2021 afternoon making history.
Flags of both countries were hoisting on the trucks and they were received by high officials of both countries at the terminal.
Connectivity between the two countries and two regions is the vision of President Shavkat Miromonovich and Prime Minister Imran Khan that they discussed and agreed in first online summit in mid April and later PM’s visit and meeting with President in mid July at Tashkent this year.
Lt. Gen. Victor Makhmudov, Secretary of the Security Council of the Republic of Uzbekistan, First Deputy Foreign Minister, Former Ambassador to Pakistan Mr. Furqat Sidiq and Minister of Commerce, Abdul Razak Dawood, SAPM on National Security Dr Moeed Yousuf welcomes the trucks along with the representatives of National Logistic Cell of Pakistan at this historic moment and place.
The visiting delegation received a briefing by the relevant authorities at Michni post, besides witnessing arrival of cargo trucks from Uzbekistan.
The visit to Tourkham by Uzbek delegation shows that the region is increasingly pivoting around the Geo-economic paradigm whose core component is are: regional connectivity.
This underscores the immense benefits awaiting to be reaped by all the regional countries and symbolizes that connectivity is the future of the region. In the second leg of the trip, the delegation visited Pakistan Military Academy (PMA), Kakul where the visiting dignitary received a briefing from the Commandant and witnessed training of military cadets.
While praising the standards of training and professionalism of the academy, Lt. Gen. Makhmudov evinced interest in sending Uzbek military officers for training to PMA.
