Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says the latest US-Israeli airstrikes on two southern Iranian islands were conducted from the UAE soil, adding that this shows the anti-Iran attacks are carried out from the territory of its neighbors.
“They have attacked Kharg Island and Abu Musa Island with artillery rocket system, HIMARS, which is a low range rocket, and they have done it from the soil of our neighbors. And this is crystal clear that now they are using the territory of our neighbors to attack us by this kind of rockets, and this is absolutely unacceptable,” Araghchi said on Saturday in an exclusive interview with MS Now.
Early on Saturday, the US conducted airstrikes on the Persian Gulf islands of Kharg and Abu Musa, two weeks after the country along with Israel launched their war of aggression against Iran, which has so far left more than 1,400 civilians killed.
“These last night attacks were tracked by our forces and now it is clear that they are fired from the UAE, from two locations in the UAE, from in Rasul Khayma and from a location very close to the city of Dubai. And it is very dangerous that they use highly populated areas to launch rockets against we would certainly retaliate but we try to be careful not to attack any populated area.”
Strait of Hormuz closed to enemies’ tankers
The top diplomat said that the Strait of Hormuz is only closed to tankers and ships belonging to Iran’s enemies and their allies, “others are free to pass.”
There are many tankers and ships that are passing through the strait, while others choose not to pass because of security concerns, which has nothing to do with Iran, he added.
Iran will continue to defend itself
Araghchi said that the ongoing war, which the United States and Israel began on February 28, was imposed on Iran, emphasizing that the Islamic Republic will continue to defend its territory.
“We didn’t start this war. It was an unprovoked, unwarranted, illegal act of aggression against us, and we are only defending ourselves, and we continue to defend ourselves as much as it takes and as long as it takes in order to end this war in a way that it won’t be repeated in the future.”
