Media Delegation Visit Maritime Study Forum, Pakistan’s Potential Discussed

Islamabad; Global Media Association , a media persons organization arranged a visit to a private sector think tank Maritime Study Forum (MSF)on 26 Feb 2020. Ms. Reema Shaukat, Senior Media Coordinator MSF, gave a presentation on introduction, objectives, and work done by MSF to the guests. The presentation was followed by an interactive session of guests with President MSF Dr. Syed Mohammed Anwer. The journalists commended work done by MSF and offered their support in projection of Pakistan’s maritime potential in mainstream media.

President MSF Dr. Syed Mohammed Anwer informed the attendants on the purpose and objectives of Maritime Study Forum during the discussion.He told that despite having a 1000 Km long coastline we have remained “seablind” and have kept our maritime resources underutilized. He told about potential of Pakistan’s maritime resources and various sectors of maritime that Pakistan can benefit from.

Responding to a question, Dr. Anwer told about the importance of Maritime economy and the lack of focus it received in last annual budget. He told about importance of Ministry of Maritime Affairs and how it brought together different departments working on maritime in Pakistan. He said that fisheries and shipping industry are most neglected sectors of maritime in Pakistan and need to be brought into focus to achieve rapid development in maritime sector. He also informed the audience about steps taken by MSF to promote maritime sector of Pakistan.

The attendants commended the work done by MSF and agreed upon the need to emphasize promotion of maritime sector in Pakistan and bring awareness among policy making circles as well as among the general public.
