Minister Information Fawad Chaudhary has directed the concerned officials to start joint working of PTV and Radio Pakistan in “Kabul Hour” program. Government is considering the merger of Pakistan Television and Radio Pakistan since last two years but legal matters are posing hindrance in the venture.
A high level meeting in this regard was held on 14 Feb 2022 at PTV headquarters in which Minister Information Fawad Chaudhary chaired the meeting while Secretary Ms Shahira Shahid, MD PTV, DG Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation and other high officials were present. Some officials of Ministry of Law & Justice, Pakistan Securities Exchange Commission and Pakistan Institute of Development Economics PIDE were also part of the meeting to share legal and administering level feed back.
PIDE official presented study report of how the merger can be accomplished in a way that the resources , human and properties, lands can be utilized in best manner. A private firm would be hired to complete the merger in befitting way. The lands and properties of both organization will also be assessed.
It was suggested that the merger can be done in phases in 3 to 5 years.
Legal expert from Ministry of Law suggested that PBC was established through act of Parliament while PTVC is registered under Companies Act 2017. He shared that the act of Parliament is required for merger. Second option is PBC can be created under Companies Act 2017 and later this company can be merged into PTVC.
