Dushanbe : Pakistan and Tajikistan have agreed to work on the road map that will enhance the trade level up to 200 Million dollars in three years while expanding cooperation in energy, agriculture, information technology, health, education and tourism during the 8th Session of the Joint Commission Meeting.
Both sides have discussed PTA, a significant step to boost trade and commercial ties and agreed to continue discussions for its early finalization.The Parties highly appreciated the progress achieved under the CASA-1000 Project and stressed the importance of completing the remaining work for the project’s timely operationalization.
The sides met in Dushanbe for the 8th Session of the Joint Commission on Trade, Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation on 2-3 June, 2026.
The Tajik delegation was led by Jum’a Daler Shofaqir, Minister of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Tajikistan, while the Pakistani delegation was led by Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, Federal Minister for Energy (Power Division). Ambassador Sharifzoda Yusuf Toir and Ambassador Irfan Ahmed also flunked by the both sides’ ministers.
The Pakistan delegation also included Sabina Qureshi, Additional Secretary, Economic Affairs Division and senior officers of M/o Commerce, M/o NFS&R, M/o NHSR&C, M/o Industries & Production, Power Division, Petroleum Division, SBP and IPC etc.The Economic Affairs Division coordinated Pakistan’s participation in the Joint Commission.
Both sides emphasized the importance of increasing trade and investment cooperation through exchange of trade information, participation in exhibitions and business forums, and regular engagement between chambers of commerce and private sectors of both countries.
The Parties agreed to organize trade delegations, B2B meetings and online business interactions to enhance bilateral trade. The two sides also agreed to exchange information on tariffs, regulations and potential sectors for trade cooperation, while working towards a three-year roadmap to increase bilateral trade to USD 200 million.
The Parties welcomed the finalization of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Agency for Export under the Government of Tajikistan and the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan.
The Parties also agreed to strengthen cooperation for government-to-government procurement through an MoU between the Agency for State Material Reserves of Tajikistan and the Trading Corporation of Pakistan.
Pakistan and Tajikistan also reaffirmed participation in the CASA-1000 Joint Working Group meeting scheduled for June 2026 in Istanbul to finalize outstanding commercial and operational matters.
The Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan agreed to collaborate with Pakistan regarding investment opportunities for Pakistan Petroleum Limited and Oil & Gas Development Company Limited in Tajikistan’s exploration and production sector.
Tajikistan agreed to facilitate access to technical and commercial data for Pakistani experts. Both sides also agreed to promote technical cooperation and training opportunities for Tajik oil and gas professionals through Pakistan’s Oil & Gas Training Institute.
Both countries agreed to strengthen cooperation in pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, light industry and information technology. The Parties discussed the possibility of establishing joint ventures in pharmaceuticals, artificial leather processing, footwear manufacturing and chemical products.
Pakistan also offered short training courses in digital marketing, e-commerce, freelancing and digital content creation for Tajik professionals to enhance cooperation in the IT sector.
In the agriculture sector, both sides agreed to increase cooperation in agricultural trade and exchange of information on seasonal and high-potential products. The Parties emphasized cooperation in the transfer and testing of high-yield crop varieties including cotton, wheat, potatoes and vegetables.
Both countries also agreed to finalize a Roadmap for Strengthening Cooperation in Agriculture for 2026–2028 and promote cooperation in phytosanitary and veterinary fields.
Pakistan Tajikistan Emphasize the Start of Direct Flights and Improvement in Visa Facilitation
The Parties agreed to strengthen cooperation in the health sector, including registration and import of pharmaceutical products and medical supplies, training in surgical instrument manufacturing and exploring the establishment of joint ventures for production of medical equipment in Tajikistan.
In education, science and technology, the Parties discussed cooperation between universities and research institutions of both countries. Tajikistan proposed collaboration between the Tajikistan University of Technology and the National University of Sciences and Technology Islamabad in engineering, IT and architecture.
Both sides also agreed to encourage joint research projects in water resources, hydropower, ecology and agriculture, along with exchange of scientific information and innovative technologies.
The two sides also discussed cooperation in culture, tourism, youth affairs and sports. The Parties agreed to promote cultural exchanges, tourism exhibitions, mountain and adventure tourism in the Pamir-Karakoram-Hindukush region and collaboration between tourism associations and mountaineering institutions. Both sides emphasized joint promotion of Silk Route heritage and sustainable tourism initiatives.
During their concluding remarks, the Pakistan Co-Chair appreciated the warm hospitality, constructive engagement and spirit of friendship demonstrated throughout the session. The Pakistan Co-Chair side appreciated the leadership and hospitality extended by H.E. Mr. Jum’a Daler Shofaqir and the Government of Tajikistan, while the Tajik side conveyed sincere gratitude to H.E. Mr. Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, and the JC team for their effective coordination and commitment towards strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two brotherly countries.
