ISLAMABAD: 15 May 2025 – Federal Minister for Energy Sardar Owais Ahmed Khan Leghari today addressed the CASA-1000 Intergovernmental Council meeting online, in which he highlighted the importance of the project, its goals and Pakistan’s role.
The meeting was held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, and was attended by energy ministers and representatives of Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan, as well as international organizations and technical experts.
Sardar Owais Leghari said in his address that CASA-1000 is not just an energy transmission project, but it is a program that will promote economic development, harmony and mutual trust in the entire region.
The timely completion of this project is the top priority of Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, as this project is not only important in energy transmission but also guarantees the strengthening of regional relations.
The Federal Minister said that Pakistan is ready to provide its surplus electricity to partner countries during the winter season. In this regard, he offered reverse energy and said that the CASA network should be used for bilateral energy trade. Pakistan’s surplus electricity can play an important role in meeting the energy needs of Central Asian countries.
He stressed that the effective and transparent use of this network should be equally beneficial to all partner countries, so that each country can benefit equally. He added that although there has been some delay in the completion of this project, Pakistan has ensured the safety and maintenance of all its assets.
Sardar Owais Leghari concluded by saying that CASA-1000 is not only a major energy project but also a foundation for the prosperity, stability and mutual cooperation of the entire region. The successful completion of this project will be a testament to our shared commitment, which will guarantee a bright future for the entire region.
