Pakistan Japan for Strong Ties in all Sectors – 65th Birthday of H.M the Emperor Celebrated in Islamabad

Islamabad: February 19, 2025: Pakistan and Japan are keen to elevate bilateral cooperation  to new heights in all sectors. This was highlighted by Federal Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan and Ambassador of Japan H.E AKAMATSU Shuichi in their speeches delivered at the reception in connection with 65th Birthday of H.M the Emperor of Japan in Islamabad.

Mr. AKAMATSU Shuichi and Mrs AKAMATSU Yumiko hosted the reception at Serena Hotels on 18 Feb 2025 that was attended by a large number of notable personalities, gov officials, parliamentarians, foreign community, businessmen and media persons.

Federal Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan, attended the grand celebration of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan’s birthday as the chief guest.

Addressing the distinguished gathering, last night the minister extended warm congratulations on behalf of the Government and the people of Pakistan, acknowledging the Emperor’s role as a symbol of unity, peace, and prosperity for Japan.

In his speech, the minister praised the Emperor’s reign, which has been characterized by a deep commitment to the well-being of his people and the advancement of Japan as a global leader in technology, culture, and sustainable development.

“His Majesty’s vision of harmony, resilience, and innovation has not only propelled Japan to remarkable heights but has also inspired the world,” he remarked.

He highlighted Japan’s significant efforts towards global peace, humanitarian assistance, and environmental sustainability, noting that these principles align closely with Pakistan’s aspirations. “Japan’s dedication to fostering peace and international cooperation is a beacon of hope and progress in an ever-changing world,” he added.

Jam Kamal Khan emphasized the deep-rooted and time-tested relationship between Pakistan and Japan, which is built on mutual respect, shared values, and a commitment to economic and cultural collaboration.

“Pakistan attaches great importance to its ties with Japan and is keen to elevate this partnership to new heights, particularly in trade, investment, and human resource development,” he stated.

He noted that the current bilateral trade volume stands at $1.27 billion but stressed that there is immense potential to enhance it further through concerted efforts.

“Japan’s expertise in technology, infrastructure, and innovation perfectly aligns with Pakistan’s vision for economic growth, and we are committed to creating new opportunities for businesses and fostering people-to-people connections,” he affirmed.

The minister expressed gratitude to the Japanese government and companies for their continued investment in Pakistan, acknowledging the presence of more than 80 Japanese firms operating in key sectors such as automotive, pharmaceuticals, steel, and machinery. “Pakistan’s strategic location makes it an ideal trade and investment hub, offering vast opportunities for Japanese businesses,” he said.

He also lauded the contributions of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) in supporting Pakistan’s development efforts, recognizing their role in fostering economic growth and trade collaboration.

To mark the special occasion, a cake-cutting ceremony was held, in which Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan participated alongside Japanese officials and dignitaries. The minister also visited an exhibition showcasing Japanese products, where he was briefed about the latest innovations and technological advancements by Japanese companies operating in Pakistan.

He appreciated the quality and craftsmanship of Japanese products and expressed hope that such exhibitions would further strengthen commercial ties between the two nations. “Events like these not only celebrate our friendship but also open new doors for business and investment collaborations,” he remarked during his visit to the stalls.

As the celebration marked an occasion of unity and friendship, the minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to strengthening its partnership with Japan. “As we celebrate His Majesty’s birthday, let us also reflect on the values he embodies—peace, progress, and prosperity. Together, we can continue to work towards a future defined by mutual success and global harmony,” he concluded.

H.E AKAMATSU Shuichi, in his welcome address, spoke highly about hospitality and positive approaches of Pakistanis for Japan. He said, ” I visited many places including Lahore, Karachi, Taxila , I met hundreds of people and I found their remarks about Japan encouraging and pleasant. Pakistanis trust the products of Japan.”

” Both countries are working for international peace and stability. Japan is committed to extend support to the development of Pakistan. Japan has always cooperated with Pakistan in last more than 7 decades and this cooperation will continue, Ambassador said.

Mr. Shichi shared that the youth of Japan played key role in the economy of their country. He emphasized on human development for progress and prosperity.

The students of Japanese School Islamabad received huge applause and appreciation from the guests for their performance on drums and traditional Japanese cultural demonstration.

More than 80 Japanese companies are working in Pakistan. Some of them set up their stalls at the adjacent hall. They included JICA, Indus Motors, Suzuki and other.

Ikibana was also part of the celebration on one side where the ladies of Japan Embassy and Serena Hotels decorated a corner with Japanese art of flowers arrangement.

Minister Commerce mentioned OSAKA Industrial Exhibition and said Pakistan will participated in this international event. Ambassador welcomed Pakistan to the exhibition and said , it will further enhance bilateral understanding and collaboration.

An international exposition will be held in Osaka in 2025 under the theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives.” From April 13 to October 13, 2025, Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan (“Kansai” refers to Osaka and surrounding areas) will be held in Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture.

Most of the guests in any Japanese event search for Sushi, the traditional Japanese dish made with vinegared rice ( sushi-meshi), typically seasoned with sugar and salt, and combined with a variety of ingredients ( neta), such as seafood, vegetables, or meat: raw seafood is the most common, although some may be cooked. So, for their taste , along with many other mouth watering dishes, The Sushi was also served.
