Tea and Coffee are two weaknesses of Pakistanis as a must part of their daily routine life. Pakistan imported $9.67 Million worth of coffee in 2023 . Pakistan spends $650 Million annually on import of tea. The level of import for coffee is expected to cross tea in few years and Rwanda High Commission is active to get maximum share of the market for its best quality, high altitude coffee.

Different countries are introducing their tea and coffee in Pakistani market. Pakistan imports most of the tea from Kenya. Sri Lanka is also a players but her share is not as much as to mention. Ethiopia is promoting her coffee since when the embassy has been opened in Islamabad couple of years ago.

The High Commission of Rwanda in Pakistan is also in the race now with fine coffee from their country. The H.C, in partnership with the National Board for Agricultural and Animal Export Development (NAEB), is organizing the Rwanda Coffee Festival 2026, an event aimed at promoting Rwandan coffee in the Pakistani market and stimulating trade and investment opportunities in the sector.

The staff of the high commission have worked hard day and night selflessly during last week for arrangements and to make this first festival of Rwanda a big success. The High Commissioner herself spent long hours at her office to oversee the matters herself.

The festival will be hosted on 29 January 2026,  at Mövenpick Hotel, Islamabad, to experience Rwanda’s high-altitude Arabica coffee, connect with industry leaders, and explore new opportunities in the coffee sector. Later in the evening , another session will be held to introduce the coffee with another group of potential customers.
The Rwandan Coffee festival aims to introduce Rwanda’s globally acclaimed specialty coffee to the Pakistani market and to promote trade and investment opportunities in the coffee sector. Rwanda is internationally recognized for its high altitude Arabica coffee pparticularly the Bourbon variety revonowned for its exceptional quality, bright acidity, aroma and distinctive flavor profile.
Known as “Land of a Thousand Hills” coffee, it is grown at high altitudes  in nutrient-rich volcanic soil, yielding a bright, aromatic cup with sweet notes of citrus, red fruit, and caramel. Cultivated by over 400,000 smallholders, it is often processed via washing stations, making it a favorite for, light-to-medium roasts.
The event will bring together leaders, delegates from Rwanda, diplomats, policymakers, business leaders, coffee profeshionals, importers, roasters, investors and media representatives.
The program will include live coffee brewing and cupping sessions, a documentary screeing on Rwanda’s coffee journey from farm to cup and and a coffee exhibition by Rwandan exporters.
High Commissioner of Rwanda to Pakistan H.E. HARERIMANA Fatou and the CEO NAEB Rwanda Mr. Claude Bizimana are hosting the festival in which a good number of producers and exporters from their country will be present. The guests are arriving Islamabad on 28 Jan.
