Islamabad; 20 Dec 2020 – The bold and beautiful mountaineer from Poland, Magdalena Gorzkowska is in Islamabad today at the Embassy of Poland where Ambassador H.E Mr Piotr A. Opalinski welcomed the team and felicitated in accomplishing their great goal.

She goes on an expedition to the high mountains today – first flight to Skardu, then driving to Askole and almost 100 kilometers of trekking to the base under #K2 at 5000 m. Her amazing energy is given to all who are lucky enough to meet her. As a reporter she is accompanied by Oswald Rodrigo Pereira, this is his third trip to the Pakistani Himalayas.

Beautiful because she is and Bold because no one dares to mount the snow packed peaks in this season of winter when the highest cool weather is being reported in Pakistani cities of flat lands, let alone the sky scrapping mountains of Gilgit Baltistan.

Magdalena Gorzkowska (born 30 April 1992) is a Polish track and field sprinter competing in the 400 metres, mountaineering and himalaism. She was a silver medallist in the 4 × 400 metres relay at the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships. She holds a personal best of 52.95 seconds for the 400 m.

Born in Bytom and a member of TS AKS Chorzów athletics club, she made her first international appearances with the Polish 4 × 400 metres relay team. They placed eighth at the 2010 World Junior Championships in Athletics then she took her first medal, a silver, at the 2011 European Athletics Junior Championships. A senior debut followed at the 2012 European Athletics Championships, where she ran individually (coming 20th overall) and was eighth in the relay final. Later that season she was part of the Polish delegation for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London but was not selected to run in the relay. An appearance at the 2013 European Athletics U23 Championships brought Gorzkowska her first title, as she led off a team Małgorzata Hołub, Agnieszka Karczmarczyk and Justyna Święty.

Gorzkowska received her first senior medal at the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships. Teaming up again with Hołub and Święty and joined by Ewelina Ptak, the Polish quartet held off a challenge from Romania to take the silver medals behind the host nation, the United States.

Her accomplishments in mountaineering include ascents of Mont Blanc, Aconcagua, Kilimanjaro, Mount Everest (as the youngest Polish female) and Makalu (first Polish female without supplemental oxygen).

Oswald Rodrigo Pereira is lawyer by education, journalist by profession, passion … mountain runner and ultramarathon runner. Polish origin, but also Portuguese, although … born in Brussels. He draws his love for football from Portuguese blood, which he reports on TVP Sport. He inherited stubbornness and love for the mountains from the Polish admixture. He reaches the lower peaks by running in mountain runs, the higher he is currently looking at. Although in this case the observation takes a rather unusual form – at the turn of February and March Oswald reported the events of the national base of the winter expedition to K2 for Polish Television.
