Pak -EPA Team visits Murree Brewery for Second Meeting of National Environmental Quality Standards

Rawalpindi; 18 Dec 2020- Director General  Pakistan Environmental Agency Pak – EPA Islamabad, Farzana Altaf Shah, in her pursuance to initiate dialogue with industries, Chaired the Second of NEQS (National Environmental Quality Standards) meeting at  Murree Brewery at their site in Rawalpindi.

The main objective of the meeting was to create a favorable condition for industries to comply with NEQS. For this purpose, it was established that Industry Specific NEQS would be drafted to reduce pressure on industries that are willing to comply with the regulations but are unable to do so due to one or two parameters.

Mr. Isphanyar Bhandara (CEO Murree Brewery Co. Ltd.) shared at the meeting that it is the mutual interest of Pak-EPA and the Industrial sector to cooperate and create a win-win situation for the both of Pak-EPA and the Industrial Sector.

He also appreciated the initiative of Pak – EPA of considering having industry specific NEQS. Further, he referred to visit by Pak – EPA two years back and constant guidance that enabled Murree Brewery to achieve zero water waste by saving 16000 Liters of water per hour of production, using Reverse Osmosis, and managed reuse 100% of the reclaimed water.

The EPA team had a round into different sections of the factories and observed the working in the context of environment protection. Mr. Bhandara briefed the DG about the measures being taken at the factories to avoid any damage to the atmosphere. The team of EPA expressed their satisfaction on the spirit of the administration in this regard.
