UZBEK NATION RE-ELECTS SHAVKAT MIRZIYOYEV AS PRESIDENT FOR SECOND TERM WITH OVERWHELMING MAJORITY

Uzbekistani nation has elected Mr. Shavkat Mirziyoyev for second term at the Presidency with overwhelming majority expressing deep trust and solid confidence in his leadership. He has secured 80.1 % votes as announced by the Chief Election Commissioner of Uzbekistan at his much awaited press conference in Tashkent at 4 PM on 25 Oct 2021 in the National Press Center before a large number of press and media repersentatives who travelled to Tashkent to cover the Presidential Election.This was the sixth presidential election held since independence. Mr. Shavkat was first elected as President in 2016 after the sad demise of President Islam Karimov.

5 Parties were in the running for the president. They included  Ecological party of Uzbekistan with Candidate Mr. Narzullo Naimovich Oblomurodov who got 4.1 % votes, People’s democratic party with Candidate Ms Maksuda Azizovna Vorisova who got 6.1 %, Movement of entrepreneurs and business people – Liberal- democratic party with Candidate Mr Shavkat Miromonovich Mirziyoyev who fetched 80.1 %, National Revival democratic party with Candidate Mr Alisher Keldievich Kadirov who secured 5.5 and  “Adolat” social democratic party with Candidate Mr. Bahrom Abdurahimovich Abduhalimov who could attract only 3.4 % of the total votes cast.

The people of Uzbekistan  polled their votes for the election of the president on 24 october 2021 with remarkable participation in the election process. The process was smooth with no untoward incident anywhere in the capital Tashkent and in other parts of the country.

Large number of voters came out of their homes to cast their votes freely. It was a national holiday to facilitate the public to use their right of vote. People from all walks of life participated with full national ferver. This included women, youth and elderly people as well.

The government of Uzbekistan attaches great importance for the well being of women and youth. This scribe visited 3 polling stations in the capital city and witnessed a large number of women and youth coming to polling stations.

Chief Election Commissioner of Uzbekistan Z. Nizam Khodjaev, while addressing to a well attended press conference termed the election as a big success for the country with respect to peaceful, transparent and voter facilitating election that has been reckognized by international orgs and more than one thousand observers from 50 countries.

He noted that the election day was shifted from Dec to Near November and this decision has been proved as right decision. International Organizations like SCO, OIC, Turcik Speaking and journalists, observers from across the world have observed the election and no complaint has been launched.
