“Women in Music” Discussion by FACE and EUNIC -Equal Payments Regardless of Gender in Pakistan and in Europe

Islamabad: A panel discussion titled “Women in Music” was organized by Department of Computer Arts in collaboration with Foundation for Arts, Culture and Education (FACE) in partnership with European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC) in continuation of seven days music residency program called “Heritage Live”.
This residency consisted of one-week training sessions in Islamabad from May 23rd to May 30th, 2022 which allowed collaborations in which local artists co-created music with European artists and recorded their own album.
FACE with the help of EUNIC designed the residency that contributes to preserving and promoting Pakistan’s rich musical heritage and to fostering inter-cultural dialogue between the European Union and Pakistan. Following countries have participated in this residency program:

Department of Computer Arts supports women artists and promotes women in all fields of Art, Design and Media. The panel discussion was organized to talk about women’s role in music industry and acknowledging women icons in music industry.
The panelists discussed issues regarding equal artist payments regardless of gender in Pakistan and in European countries.
Ms. Gulshan Jehan talked about challenges faced by female folk singers in Pakistani music industry including audio production, media visibility and stage performances. The panel also suggested solutions and emphasized on maintaining gender balance in a male dominant music industry.
This event initiated a collaboration of Department of Computer Arts with FACE and EUNIC which may lead to other collaborative events of international level. Live coverage and promotion of the event was done through various social media platforms of FJWU, FACE and Heritage Live which projected the name of the university to a wider audience and generated a lot of promotion for the university among international audience and European Embassies.
The CEO of FACE Mr. Zeejah Fazli invited and announced free passes for faculty and students of FJWU for their mega event in Lok Virsa Islamabad on 28th May, 2022 in which the residency artist showcased their work through incredible live performances.
