51 UN member states including EU, UK, Bosnia, Albania, Canada, Australia have jointly called on Russia to agree to a full, immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Ukraine and to engage in meaningful negotiations to end the war. Since March 2025, Ukraine has agreed to a full, immediate and unconditional ceasefire. They urged Russia to finally do the same. They expressed full support and solidarity with Ukraine.
The joint statement was released ahead of a UN Security Council meeting on “Maintenance of peace and security of Ukraine” by EU high representative for foreign affairs and security policy Kaja Kallas and Ukrainian foreign minister Andrii Sybiha.
The signatories underlined the need to uphold the principles of the UN Charter, including respect for sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, and the inherent right to self-defense.
The statement also voiced deep concern over the escalation of Russian attacks on Ukraine’s civilian population and infrastructure, which have led to a record number of casualties in recent months, according to UN data.
The call adds to growing diplomatic pressure for a halt to hostilities and a return to negotiations. “We stand in solidarity with Ukraine as it continues to face Russia’s war of aggression,” the statement says.
The partner countries called for protecting freedom of navigation in the Black Sea, commercial shipping and critical infrastructure, and safeguarding Ukrainian grain exports and global food security.
They also called on Russia to immediately return all arbitrarily detained, forcibly transferred or deported Ukrainian civilians, including children, as well as all prisoners of war and internees.
“Ukraine wants peace. We want peace. Russia must stop its aggression, accept a ceasefire, and engage meaningfully in negotiations towards a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in accordance with international law,” they stressed.
“We must stop this war now. Before Putin enters your home. He is already at the entrance”, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said at the “Maintenance of peace and security of Ukraine” UN Security Council meeting.
In the meanwhile, back in Kyiv , Russia has been attacking Kyiv with drones since early morning, including many jet-powered drones. The strikes killed at least two people and injured 37 as civilian and critical infrastructure was targeted – pharmaceutical facilities, petrol stations, railways, communications networks and shopping centres.
Among the sites damaged today is Kyiv’s Shaiba, a well-known example of Kyiv modernism, built in 1973 to a design by architect Alla Anishchenko. Strikes have also hit cities and communities in eight regions.
Speaking at the UN Security Council in New York, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha pointed to Russia’s attacks and destabilisation efforts across Europe.
“Russia already wages war on Europe – arson, assassination, cyberattacks, disinformation, election meddling, the weaponization of energy, food, and migration, drones and missiles crossing into NATO airspace. This is not “hybrid”. Drop this word. Russia’s war against Europe is no longer hybrid. Instead of safeguarding peace, Russia is spreading war. That is everyone’s problem”, Andrii Sybiha stressed.
